In Mixed Reality , we are building the next generation of devices and infrastructure for training and in-field deployment of scenarios like project IVAS (Integrated Visual Augmentation System). As a Software Engineer II - Mixed Reality , you will work on the Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS). The United States Army has contracted Microsoft to prototype hardware, software, and cloud solutions for IVAS. The program leverages technology from HoloLens to design a heads-up display that pushes the boundaries of mixed reality devices. You will be responsible for developing software for the core experience and extensibility that powers these devices.

Responsibilities

  • Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features.
  • Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight.
  • Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable.
  • Contributes to efforts to break down larger work items into smaller work items and provides estimation.
  • Adhere to modern DevOps engineering practices, effective coding, writing unit test cases, debugging, code reviewing, and creating CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery) pipelines.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience delivering commercial-quality software products for consumers or enterprises.

Other Requirements

Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements that are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
  • Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This role will require access to information that is controlled for export under export control regulations, potentially under the U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations or Export Administration Regulations, the EU Dual Use Regulation, and/or other export control regulations. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to provide proof of citizenship, U.S. permanent residency, or other protected status for assessment of eligibility to access the export-controlled information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working experience with C++ is preferred.
  • Working experience in building software development kits and/or APIs.
  • Working experience with system-level features such as multi-threading and inter-process communications.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
