This engineer may also provide engineering support for new and/or expanding business implementations. The Sr Industrial Engineer will support multifaceted operations and have a detailed understanding of client needs. The Sr Industrial Engineer may contribute to the overall facility layout and design as well as determine appropriate equipment to support the concept of operational use. The engineer will also routinely support the physical implementation of the solution.This role is also responsible for maintaining financial and engineering metrics that will meet or exceed performance goals. The Sr Industrial Engineer may at times provide guidance and training to interns/Co-ops.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESResearch/Analysis:Ensures all distribution system functionality is configured to optimize performance (e.g., warehouse management, labor management, slotting, and reporting applications)Utilizes work measurement techniques (predetermine time & motion / time studies / etc.) and analyzes work samples to develop standards for labor utilizationAnalyzes contractual commitments, customer specifications, design changes and other data to drive continuous improvement and meet or exceed expectations of customerPerforms special research or technical studies critical to logistic support functionsPerforms cost/benefit tradeoff analysis and develop ROI business cases for recommended projects involving process, system, or technology changeForecasts facility, vehicle, staffing and/or material handling equipment needs in order to improve cost, utilization, service, and efficienciesConducts studies to determine the most efficient sequence of operations and workflow by analyzing production costs, process flow charts, and production schedulesRecommends methods for maximizing the utilization of production facilities and personnel by restructuring job duties, reorganizing workflow, relocating workstations and equipment, and purchasing equipment in adherence with governmental, health, safety, and other regulations.Provides labor planning tool tailored to the client's business and agreed upon operating processesDocumentation/Reporting:Document and communicate common processes for all distribution functions within scope of responsibilityReview data and summarize expectations to address gaps in operationIdentify areas for improvement based on analysis of data and observationsCommunication:Communicate opportunities for improvement in the distribution networkHelp determine key metrics and provide recommendations to guide managementAssist with developing/presenting training materials and classes for distribution processesRelationships:Bring cross-functional teams together to collaborate on projectsSupport the labor management program, including methods and procedures, engineered labor standards, incentive programs, and program policiesEnsure alignment among all operations' policies, procedures, and ongoing improvement projectsLEAN Operations:Facilitate LEAN methodology and recommend solutions to specific business case issuesUtilize statistical tools such as Pareto Charts, Histograms, Cause & Effect DiagramsMaintain subject matter expertise in proven industry methods and tools such as Six Sigma DMAIC, value-stream mapping, and 5SWork with leadership to drive continual improvement programs, Kaizen events, and workshopsEnsure that all projects include a sustainability component and drive adherence at multiple levels within the organization utilizing integrated process audits, floor-level dashboards, and management scorecardsIllustrate continual improvement successes in a case study before & after format that quantifies value and documents actions taken for future reapplicationProject Management:Assist with developing and rolling out growth strategies and projectsEstablishes and tracks projects/actions utilizing project management tools and leads/supports driving meetings with operations through completionDetermine feasibility of projects factoring costs, available space, schedule limitations, company goals, technical requirements, and economic factorsOTHER VALUED PROFICIENCIESSolution Design:Identifies and procures all necessary capital expense items to support successful launch of operationUnderstanding of the approved Solutions Model tied to the client's award of business to DSVParticipation in "Advance Quality Planning" sessions with clients validating requirements and processesDetermines and gains agreement of final design of facility, operating process, equipment type and quantityPartners with key functional groups that are part of implementation (HR, IT, Operations, etc.) to develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's)Develops and provides action items to Project Management that will lead to successful implementationOTHER DUTIESPerforms other duties as requiredSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESIf applicable may manage interns, providing coaching and mentoring as they support process improvement projectsMINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - Education and/or ExperienceMinimum 2 years of industrial engineering experience in a supply chain (warehouse/4 walls) or similar environmentBachelor's degree in an Engineering disciplineExperience in retail distribution support and/or e-commerce type environmentPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSDegree in Industrial Engineering is preferredGreen Belt Six Sigma / Lean CertifiedExperience dealing with end users, vendors, and clientsPrefer 3 -
