We create modern tools & services that help developers build apps & services for a variety of platforms, including Windows, iOS, Android, Azure and many more. The team builds developer tools (Visual Studio & Visual Studio Code), designs & develops developer experiences for C#, TypeScript (JavaScript), C++ and more. We also deliver mission critical developer services like Azure DevOps and Azure Lab Services that enable developers to build applications and services using any language and any platform. Our work includes enabling deeper integration with GitHub Copilot and other providers to enable scenarios not possible in any other developer tool. We are designing new experiences for developers as they adopt new productivity experiences with GitHub Copilot.
We are looking for a Software Engineer II to help us deliver additional tools & services to significantly improve developers’ productivity. You will work with program managers to understand customer needs, develop experiences that make them more productive as they work with their team members to develop, deploy, and run their apps & services.
You will work in a collaborative environment to build features in tools & services, ship them to customers frequently and learn from customer feedback. You will build simple and powerful experiences in developer tools, highly scalable cloud services that the tools will connect to, and systems that monitor the health of the services. The software you build will help millions of developers all over the world.

Responsibilities

- Design, implement, debug, and deliver rich developer experiences and services using C#, TypeScript (JavaScript), and/or C++
Qualifications
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
Background Check: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- Software design, coding and debugging experience
- Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment paradigms
- Familiarity with SQL databases and/or NoSQL document stores. Experience with high scale SQL.
- Troubleshooting skills across network, application, caching, queuing, load-balancing storage and distributed services layers
- Experience using and contributing to Open Source or Inner Source
Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
