SKILLED CNC MACHINIST (LATHE/MILLS) JOB DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY: Responsible for setting up, programming and editing, and operating CNC vertical mills and/or lathes for fabricating graphite parts, as per provided customer drawings. Must be able to work under minimal supervision. Must be able to read and understand mechanical drawings including tolerances, perform calculations, set up fixturing, tooling, and calibrate CNC machinery, understand and utilize inspection tooling and gaging to inspect machined parts, and complete all documentation associated with machined parts. Must have mechanical and mathematical aptitude, as well as a respect for safety precautions.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
--Review Work Order paperwork, drawings, and work instructions to understand machining specifications
--Set-up CNC machine, program and/or edit, fixturing/tooling sequence, inspection and documentation of machined parts
--Monitor machine while adjusting feeds/speeds and maintaining operational progress
--Operate all machinery in a safe and responsible manner, while observing all safety protocols
--Continually monitor/adjust machining process and output, while meeting quality and quantity requirements
--Perform routine machine maintenance and repair, as necessary
--Document material/labor/quality activities as required on Work Order paperwork
--Safety consciousness in all Plant activities
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
--Proven CNC machining experience mills and/or lathes, minimum of 5 years
--Able to use precision inspection tools for accurate measurements
--Programming/editing experience at the machine
--Ability to read and interpret machine drawings
--Strong mathematical and analytical skills, attention to detail, and a good communicator
--Physical stamina to be able to move efficiently around machining area, and lift up to 40 pounds
--Forklift skills are a plus
--Able to work independently
--Dependable, task-focused, and hard-working
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
--High school diploma or equivalent, vocational training or apprenticeship is an asset
--Minimum of 5 years of CNC machining exposure and experience

--Commensurate with ability, skill sets, and experience
