About the Role:
Grade Level (for internal use): 11
The Role: Lead Java Engineer.

The Team: Core Services is a global technology team focused on building modern cloud-native frameworks and platforms while offering employees the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. We are building a cloud-native microservices framework that allows engineering teams to create production-ready cloud-native microservices faster.

The Impact: Our team is responsible for the development of frameworks and platforms that power the cloud-native microservice development of mission-critical applications and platform services at S&P Ratings. We aim to simplify the complex enterprise Java application development process by offering a framework that provides solutions for resilience, observability, secret stores, deployments, and more. A key success measure is to decrease the number of decisions that a developer is required to make without necessarily losing flexibility and adhering to the DRY (Don't Repeat Yourself) principles, while also reducing overall application development costs by promoting reuse.

What’s In It For You:
Hybrid work schedule (work onsite 2x/week).
Unparalleled opportunity and responsibility to make a highly visible global impact.
The chance to join a large community of like-minded technologists in a flat organization that promotes collaboration, a “can do” mindset, and teamwork.
Opportunity to work on unprecedented greenfield projects that impact S&P Ratings and the financial services industry broadly.

Responsibilities:
  1. Work as a Technical Lead to develop libraries, frameworks, and platforms that handle our core functionality and cross-cutting microservices needs.
  2. Design and build new features, maintain high code quality via tests/code reviews/metrics, and focus on continuous improvement in all parts of the development process.
  3. Research new tools and cloud-native technologies from the Java community, CNCF, Spring, Apache, and others.
  4. Build proof of concepts and provide recommendations for integration into our product.
  5. Make code quality decisions and ship solutions to provide value to our business.
  6. Collaborate with product managers, designers, business stakeholders, and engineers to define product vision and objectives.

What We’re Looking For:
  1. MS/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related disciplines.
  2. Full Stack Engineer with solid understanding and experience of core Java, Spring Boot, React JS, and distributed and cloud-native microservices development.
  3. Proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, TypeScript, and related front-end technologies.
  4. Experience with front-end frameworks and libraries such as React, Redux, Webpack, etc.
  5. Strong understanding of responsive design and mobile-first development.
  6. Experience with distributed messaging, container management tools, cloud computing platforms, and DevOps tools.
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience speaking to technical and business audiences.
  8. Strong technical ability and willingness to learn and evolve skills with advances in technology.
  9. Experience working with search platforms such as Elasticsearch, Solr, OpenSearch.
  10. Experience working with messaging solutions such as distributed streaming platforms, JMS, etc.
  11. Experience working with cloud services on platforms such as AWS, Azure, etc.
  12. Experience with development of APIs and API management.

Flexible Working:
We pride ourselves on our agility and diversity, and we welcome requests to work flexibly. For most roles, flexible hours and/or an element of remote working are usually possible. Please talk to us at the interview about the type of arrangement that is best for you. We will always try to be adaptable wherever we can.
