National Grid is hiring a Senior Engineer, Mechanical Engineering. The role will be located in our Hicksville, NY office.
Job Purpose
• To oversee or perform Engineering modifications and additions to existing plant in Steam Electric and Gas Turbine Generating Stations.
• To manage the Capital project within approved LIPA budgets and comply with the National Grid Asset Management requirements.
Key Accountabilities
• Prepare engineering calculations, studies or evaluations in support of the modifications and additions.
• Prepare purpose and necessity statements, risk assessments, cost estimates, schedules and sanctioning documents.
• Prepare major equipment procurement and installation specifications, technical bid evaluations, purchase recommendations and purchasing requisitions.
• Administer equipment and installation Contractor purchase orders by enforcing schedule commitments, reviewing and approving drawing and data submittals, making final equipment inspections at Vendor shops and Contractor’s installation work at the power station sites.
• Interface with designers, other engineering discipline engineers/designers, plant staffs, National Grid maintenance support departments, and installation Contractors.
• Provide information to designers and approve design drawings.
• Provide commissioning and troubleshooting support at any of the power station sites.
• Perform equipment inspections at Vendors manufacturing facilities or repair shops.
• Provide engineering support to electric production as required.
Qualifications
• 5 or more years of related power station experience.
• Knowledge of power plant systems, components, equipment and operations.
• Knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
• Experience with reviewing work performed by Designers.
• Experience with inspecting installation work.
• Experience with working with other engineering disciplines.
• Experience with preparing specifications, calculations, studies, budget estimates and schedules.
• Bachelor’s degree in appropriate discipline from an ABET accredited University.
• Intern Engineer license in the state of New York a plus.
• Proficient in the use of computer programs such as Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.
• Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and computer skills.
• A valid New York State driver’s license.
More Information
$119,000 - $140,000 a year.
