Backbone is looking for a talented Junior Android Engineer to join our team! In this position, you'll be responsible for helping build the Backbone App, representing the next evolution in mobile gaming. You will work with other mobile team members, Data Science, Product, Design, Core Gaming, Devices, and many others to turn ideas into reality. As you help bring more people into gaming, there will be work with major gaming platforms and other partners to help integrate their content into the application.
The Android team utilizes modern technologies to help drive the technical roadmap and ensure Backbone has an awesome codebase that’s extendible and enjoyable to work with.
What You'll Do:
- Work with product, design, and fellow engineers to bring product ideas to life
- Develop, test, and ship core product features in our Android app
- Build elegant and maintainable code to enable us to move fast and deliver quality
- Debug and address issues with the existing codebase
- Handle performance testing, participate in code reviews, and write unit tests
- Assist with app health monitoring and response (passively during on-call hours)
What We're Looking For:
- 2+ years experience in Android Development
- Fundamental knowledge of Android development frameworks and app fundamentals using Kotlin
- Understanding of modern application architecture paradigms and associated strengths and weaknesses
- Excellent attention to detail and an eye for visuals. Design skills are not required, but you should be able to critique and modify existing designs
- Strong computer science and software engineering fundamentals
Bonus Points:
- Experience developing and shipping real-world Android applications of very high quality and polish is a plus!
- You have worked on a software team previously
- Understanding or experience with reactive programming for Android (Rx/Coroutine/Flow)
- Degree in Computer Science or a related field preferred
