The Role

As Moxion’s first Controls Engineer, you will lead automation controls efforts for manufacturing equipment used by Moxion’s Battery Manufacturing lines. This highly collaborative engineer is a key part of the Battery Technology team. You’ll work with other leaders, engineers, and technicians to establish Moxion as a world-class manufacturer of battery-based energy storage. Come electrify the future with us!

What you'll do:

  • Execute and create controls related test plans for new automated process equipment for deployment into production.
  • Architect, write, and debug PLCs using Ladder and/or Structured Text with an emphasis on generating code that is organized, structured, documented, maintainable and reusable.
  • Design equipment software interfaces that streamline data communication between manufacturing equipment and supervisory level systems such as the factory Manufacturing Execution system (MES).
  • Develop HMI and SCADA screens for manufacturing production lines and automation work cells.
  • Assist with controls standards and specification by identifying gaps and lessons learned through internal equipment development projects and working with external partners. Apply these lessons learned to make future projects run more efficiently.
  • Assist with creating a standard for robotics integration, coding and equipment.
  • Implement (ANSI/RIA15.06/OSHA compliant) control reliable safety systems for safeguarding robots, gantries, conveyors, and other high volume manufacturing equipment.
  • Debug and optimize automated processes to reduce cycle time, maximize availability and improve yield.
  • Support vendors all the way through installation and commissioning to start of production and initial ramp.
  • Create training plans and troubleshooting documentation for maintenance and production teams who will be the end user and supporter of the equipment after launch.

Skills to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or similar technical field.
  • Experience managing projects of controls standards creation, development and/or design.
  • Experience programming Allen-Bradley Rockwell, Siemens and/or Beckhoff PLCs.
  • Experience designing and troubleshooting common fieldbus networks such as Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, Profibus.
