RiKarbon is a growing startup with mission to develop proprietary technologies and high-performance sustainable products from renewable feedstocks to meet growing consumer needs in the sustainable value-chain. The company’s initial product offerings include renewable UpSycal oils and ingredients for performance lubricants and cosmetics. The company is rapidly expanding its technology portfolio to serve broader sustainability initiatives, e.g . waste plastics upcycling, and seeking a process engineer and a process chemist who can lead projects and work independently in a growing multi-functional team environment.


Job description

On a daily basis, the Process Engineer will (1) contribute to laboratory operations for condensation and hydrogenation reactions and processes in batch and flow reactors, (2) design and lead construction of lab, pre-pilot and pilot scale flow reactors, (3) plan and execute experimental plan aiming towards process improvement and production of UpSycal oils, (4) supervise Research Technicians, (5) participate in meetings with collaborators/partners/customers, and (6) write reports and proposals for external funding.


Requirements

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US.
  • Bachelor or Master or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or chemistry.
  • Research/work experience on catalysis, catalyst synthesis, fixed bed flow reactor design, construction and experimentation, and analysis of organic products and intermediates using GC/GCMS, HPLC and other analytical instruments.
  • Experience in working with high-pressure reactors and reaction systems.
  • Operational experience with both small-scale and large-scale laboratory equipment (e.g., glass, Parr reactors and fixed bed flow reactors).
  • Experience in working with fixed bed flow reactor and GC/GCMS analysis must.
  • Prior industrial experience is preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task and quickly switch between activities.
  • Results-driven and team-player attitude, willing to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other scientists, engineers, and technicians. 
  • Must have ability to supervise research technicians.
