The Opportunity
A Design to Cost, DTC, Engineer is responsible for delivering Gross Margin Improvement, Securing Supply and driving Supply Chain effectiveness improvements for Abbott. Additionally, you will work with multiple Abbott businesses to identify value engineering solutions, improve supply chain resilience, and create the next generation of solutions.
What You'll Work On
- Create detailed should cost models of various technologies for Abbott products.
- Develops a portfolio of projects to deliver GMI results in fast changing businesses environments.
- Lead projects and supplier negotiations.
- Leverage technical skills to identify Value Add- Value Engineering ideas, and Design Analysis (Design for Manufacturability, Design for Cost, etc) to the respective Abbott Business Unit
- Collaboration with R&D Engineering on New Product Introductions to decrease time to market, increase production quality and reduce costs.
- Co-create a Supplier Transfer Center of Excellence to accelerat transfers, minimize Abbott engineering resources required, and maximize savings for supplier transfer projects.
- Co-create a Supplier Collaboration Center of Excellence to identify and deliver continuous improvement across single / sole supplier's value chains from their procurement through shipment to Abbott
Strategic Thinking:
- Coordinate across corporate, functions, divisions to share best practices and adherence to guidelines. This will include Should Cost methodology, creating business playbooks and leading the execution at the divisional level.
- Studying the overall needs of multiple business units to create across business solutions for Gross Margin improvements.
- Advise business unit(s) about similar strategies employed by other healthcare companies.
Relationship Management:
- Initiate a collaborative environment among stakeholders
- Maintain strong relationships across various functions, demonstrate the value-add of leveraging and build enthusiasm and support for adoption.
- Ensure optimal balance between value for money and cost savings is achieved, while ensuring quality and good customer service
- Monitor market dynamics for category across regions
- Continually look for opportunities for cost reductions and cost avoidance.
Minimum Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Mechanical or Industrial field, plus a minimum of 5 years of experience
- Successful, 5-8 year track record in Sustaining Engineering, R&D, or Manufacturing Engineering.
Minimum Education/Training Required:
- 5 years of Engineering and/or Procurement and /or Abbott Product experience.
- Strong project management and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Strong interdisciplinary, intercultural, influencing, and networking skills
- Deep knowledge of technologies and products.
- Strong negotiating skills
Preferred skills:
Knowledge or experience in Injection molding, machining, sheet metal, assembly, chemical processes, PWA's, etc
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar certification desirable, Six Sigma and/ or Lean methodologies

The base pay for this position is $72,700.00 - $145,300.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
