Mott MacDonald is expanding its already well-developed GDOT project work in Atlanta, GA. Our goal for this position is to identify an Early Career Professional to mentor and develop into our next generation of technical excellence leaders.
The Highway Engineer will be responsible for supporting a vast array of roadway improvement projects, including the design of horizontal and vertical geometry, cross sections and 3D modeling, drainage design, construction staging, and erosion control plans, and the development of design reports, calculations and estimates including design criteria packages, concept reports, technical memorandums, quantities calculations and construction cost estimates.
Some of our project work includes the following:
- Regionally significant - Rome-Cartersville Development Corridor - Project includes a 6-mile corridor on new location with 13 bridges, a new interchange on I-75, and 6 turbo roundabouts.
- Governor's Road Improvement Program (GRIP) - SR 17 in Elbert/Wilkes Counties - Project includes the widening of a 2-lane highway to 4-lanes along a 12 mile corridor, including the replacement of 3 bridges.
- Design-Build projects of different delivery methods.
- GDOT's bridge replacement program contracts.
- Gwinnett County DOT Roadway Design On-Call - widenings and intersections
Responsibilities may include:
- Prepare designs for projects from concept development, preliminary design plans, right-of-way plans, and final construction plans;
- Prepare exhibits and descriptions for easement and right-of-way agreements;
- Use computer applications or other automated systems such as MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoads, Hydra flow hydrographs, Hydraflow StormSewer, and other computer-assisted design programs;
- Design or prepare plans for new transportation systems or parts of systems;
- Support the project manager on conventional design for GDOT, various Authorities, and Municipal agencies;
- Keep up to date with current methods and design guidelines;
- Compliance with Quality, Safety, Environment, and Managerial procedures;
We invite applications from candidates with the following experience:
- Technical background and project experience that demonstrates the potential to grow into a Roadway Design Key Team Leader role on transportation projects with GDOT, County DOTs and Municipal DOT agencies across Georgia and the Southeast.
- B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
- 3-6+ years' experience in transportation or civil engineering.
- EIT; desire for obtaining PE
- Proficiency with CAD particularly MicroStation and OpenRoads.
- Familiarity with GDOT design standards and policies.
- OpenRoads Designer experience is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with Microsoft products is a plus.
- The preferable background includes a demonstrated work history in roadway engineering.
- This position does require occasional travel up to 25% and requires visits to client office locations and project sites.
- A valid driver's license and clean driving record is required for this position.
