The Director of Data Engineering will lead and enhance our Data Engineering and Machine Learning Engineering functions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the financial services industry, preferably within the payments sector, and will be passionate about leveraging generative AI to drive operational efficiency.   • Leadership: Manage and build high-performance Data Engineering and Machine Learning Engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence in a remote-first environment.
  • Strategy: Develop and implement strategies to enhance data processing pipelines, ensuring high security, efficiency, and resiliency.
  • Integration: Seamlessly integrate Data Engineering and Machine Learning Engineering into the broader engineering function, aligning with overall business objectives.
  • Technology: Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of data infrastructure using platforms like Snowflake, Adtran, Databricks, SQL, COSMOS DB, Apache Kafka, Hadoop, Spark, and cloud data services (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • AI Champion: Advocate for generative AI to drive operational efficiency and innovation within the team and organization.
  • Collaboration: Work with stakeholders to ensure data models and strategies meet business needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Mentorship: Mentor and develop team members, promoting professional growth and building a high-performing remote team.
  • Innovation: Stay current with industry trends and advancements in data engineering and AI to continually drive innovation.

What You’ll Bring To The Team

  • Proven leadership experience in data engineering and machine learning engineering roles, with extensive experience leading remote-first teams.
  • Strong background in the financial services industry, preferably within the payments sector.
  • Deep understanding of data processing, security, and resiliency best practices.
  • Expertise in building highly secure and resilient data pipelines using platforms such as Snowflake, Adtran, Databricks, SQL, COSMOS DB, Apache Kafka, Hadoop, Spark, and cloud data services (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Demonstrated experience in uplifting processes and procedures to enhance team performance and operational efficiency.
  • Passion for leveraging generative AI to drive innovation and efficiency.
  • Exceptional people leadership skills, with a track record of developing and mentoring high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a remote environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Machine Learning, or a related field is required.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field is highly preferred.
  • Doctoral degree in a relevant field is a strong plus.

Pay Range for this position: $230,000 - $275,000 based on the industry benchmark for position, function, level and Zip's compensation strategies. However, actual base salary will depend on varying circumstances and individualized factors, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.

Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
