Mechanical Engineer / Machine Design Engineer

Summary :

Our client is a well-established, capital equipment manufacturer and they are seeking to expand their Engineering team with a Mechanical Engineer that will design custom equipment and machinery.

As a Mechanical Engineer you will play a crucial role in the design, development, and support of automated systems and equipment. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve existing designs, troubleshoot systems, and ensure the production of high-quality products that meet customer expectations. This position requires strong problem-solving skills, the ability to manage multiple projects, self-motivation, organization, the ability to manage multiple projects in parallel, and a focus on driving innovation and efficiency.


This person should be a strong 3D modeler and have some familiarity and/or understand how various parts and components are fabricated and assembly to make custom equipment. Someone that highly values a career that has an exceptional level of pure machine design & engineering, working on special projects that offer true "near-clean-sheet" design opportunities. Working in an hand’s on environment where you get to physically see your custom machine designs be built.


Someone from a printing, packaging, conveying, feeding etc.. type machine design and engineering environment would be ideal. As well as designing using multiple materials, like steel, aluminum, plastics and incorporating processes including machining, sheet metal, welding, and possibly 3D printing. Some exposure to automation or electrical / PLC’s and ideally working closely with electrical engineers would also be an ideal type background.


Desired Experience:

  • Designing parts and components in Creo, Windchill, & Creo Sheet Metal and ensuring adherence to design guidelines and maintaining organized documentation for future reference
  • Machine design for conveyors, feeders, stackers, packaging equipment, printing equipment, etc.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Production teams to optimize mechanical designs and assembly workflows. Focus on improving efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness. Identify opportunities for process improvements, waste reduction, and standardization to enhance productivity and reduce cycle times.
  • Understanding of Equipment and troubleshooting
  • Experience working with Manufacturing (machine shop, lasers, waterjet, sheet metal, etc)
  • Project management and Team management
  • Provide expert technical support to internal teams, including Manufacturing, Service, Sales, as well as to customers when necessary. Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues, analyze root causes, and implement timely, effective solutions.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree - Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Mechatronics, ideally.
  • 5+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineer and Design.
  • Several years’ experience designing machines / systems, likely in a mechanical / electrical team in environment.
  • Creo Experience, ideally - or other relevant 3D modeling software
  • Exp. in a metal fabrication, assembly shop, ideally relevant to making custom equipment.
