Job Summary

The Division of HIV, Infectious Diseases and Global Medicine at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) is an internationally recognized global leader in HIV clinical care, research and education. The Bioinformatics Programmer 2 will work closely with the Principal Investigator and Study Investigators in running the computational aspects of Dr. Lee's research group. The incumbent will assist in performing complex analyses applying novel computational methods and managing the research group's server space.

The candidate should have a strong background in mathematics, biostatistics, statistical genetics, and bioinformatics. They should have strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with interdisciplinary collaborators.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in biological science, computational / programming, or related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  2. 1 or more years of directly relevant programming experience.
  3. Working knowledge of bioinformatics methods and data structures.
  4. Working knowledge of applications programming and web development.
  5. Working knowledge of databases.
  6. Working project management skills.
  7. Working knowledge of modern biology and applicable field of research.
  8. Interpersonal skills to work with both technical and non-technical personnel.
  9. Ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely.
  10. Self-motivated, able to learn quickly, meet deadlines and demonstrate problem-solving skills.
  11. Working knowledge of application and data security concepts.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Working knowledge of genomics and the limitations/common sequencing errors from associated laboratory techniques.
  2. Hands-on experience performing next-generation sequencing and/or genotyping.
  3. Hands-on experience performing immunophenotyping (flow cytometry or CyTOF).
  4. Experience using Python programming language.
  5. Experience using R programming language.
