Be the driving force behind ignition coil innovation. As a Product Development Engineer at Niterra, you'll lead the charge from concept to commercialization. Oversee product design, testing, and manufacturing, ensuring top-notch quality and performance. Mentor the next generation of engineers and collaborate with global teams to push the boundaries of ignition technology.

Essential Duties:

  • Responsible for complete product life cycle development for Ignition coils and/or other relevant new products at regional headquarters.
  • Develops BOM (Bill of Material), specifications, test procedures and is accountable for the testing and evaluation of ignition coils and/or assigned products.
  • Completes engineering documentation such as Engineering Change Notices and release 2D drawings independently.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior engineers on Niterra products, manufacturing processes, internal processes, customer relations and automotive related technical topics.
  • Leads feasibility studies, prototype, design reviews and team project discussions.
  • Applies understanding of high voltage dielectric strength and impact of corona on materials to eliminate failure modes before they occur.
  • Support purchasing with engineering approval process for changes in product materials or vendors (includes alternative vendors) and leads in communicating with vendors regarding design issues.
  • Follows APQP for new product development with an advanced understanding and can advise others on effective use of APQP.
  • Leads the design of 2D drawings and 3D solid models from physical parts. Reviews the design output of vendors and CAD personnel. Is accountable for the final design output. Keeps management apprised of project status and proactively communicates roadblocks.
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks 3D CAD software for assembly level design.
  • Advanced understanding of interactions between parts and environment.
  • Applies knowledge of material properties and manufacturing processes to new product design.
  • Understands construction techniques of parts and assemblies and guides production or vendors to improve cost, quality and/or performance.
  • Interface with Manufacturing process teams to implement production of developed products.
  • Applies advanced knowledge of thermodynamics for interactions between different design structures, shapes and materials during thermal shock to eliminate failure modes before they occur.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and prioritize assigned work. Is accountable for defined deadlines. Respond to changing priorities while working on multiple projects.
  • Applies advanced computer skills including data analysis, modeling, simulation and problem resolution to eliminate failure modes before they occur.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with working knowledge of MS Office Suite.
  • Skilled with laboratory equipment (vision systems, calipers, pin gages, microscopes, X-Ray, power supplies, waveform generator, etc) and toolroom equipment (rock saw, drill press, grinder) with the ability to ensure accurate data measurement.
  • Coordinate with related global Niterra teams on implementing manufacturing process improvements and design changes to achieve company overall goals.

Academic Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, with 10 or more years of experience preferred.

Advanced understanding of the theory for ignition coils and coil modules, which include ignition coil standards, specifications and test methodology with a focus on powertrain and emissions systems.

Comprehensive understanding of Niterra products, including materials, manufacturing processes, system integration, and QA functions.

Strong communication and customer relation skills.

Excellent project management abilities, demonstrating successful project planning and execution.

Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to operate a keyboard.

Ability to see and hear (correctable).

Ability to communicate verbally.

Ability to drive a vehicle and travel extensively (up to 50%).
