Position Description:
The JB Speed School of Engineering at the University of Louisville is dedicated to advancing technology and innovation. Our Technology Solutions Team is integral to supporting our mission, providing cutting-edge solutions and services to our faculty, staff, and students. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced IT Systems Engineer to join our team and lead our efforts in virtualization, cloud solutions, storage, procurement, helpdesk management, license agreements, classroom technology support, and budgeting.
The IT Systems Engineer will be responsible for overseeing and managing various aspects of our technology operations.
The following are essential duties and responsibilities of the position:
This role is essential to our school, as it ensures the smooth operation of our information technology systems. The impact of this work extends to enhancing student success, advancing our curriculum, and increasing researcher productivity. While the primary focus is on IT support, we are seeking candidates who are flexible, eager to learn, and possess strong skills in communication, organization, documentation, and critical thinking. The position offers flexibility, with options to work remotely or in the office, depending on preference. Regardless of work location, daily meetings and regular communication with team members via MS Teams will be required.
Speed Technology Solutions (Speed IT) is a multi-talented team charged with supporting computing infrastructure, class-room technology, web, business processes, and business analytics for the J.B. Speed School of Engineering. Our team members bring a multitude of skills and backgrounds to bear when overcoming challenges and solving problems. We work with the enterprise systems of the university, but we are a flexible group that innovates and leads with technology solutions. The team currently consists of our director, two IT and server support staff, a programmer/analyst, a graduate research assistant, and a team of undergraduate student workers. We are very supportive of opportunities for this position to cross-train or reskill as it integrates with our team.
Target Compensation Maximum:
$124,200.00
Target Compensation Minimum:
$82,800.00
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.

- Cloud Engineer: Oversee the deployment, management, and optimization of cloud-based solutions. Collaborate with stakeholders to assess needs and develop cloud strategies that align with organizational goals.
- Virtualization Engineer: Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of virtualization infrastructure. Ensure optimal performance, scalability, and security of virtualized environments.
- Storage Engineer: Manage the design, deployment, and maintenance of storage solutions. Ensure data integrity, high availability, and optimal performance of storage systems. Develop strategies for data backup, recovery, and archival.
- License Agreement Manager: Oversee the administration of software and technology license agreements. Ensure compliance with licensing terms, track license usage, and manage renewals and audits.
- Budgeting Analyst: Oversee the technology budget and endowments, including forecasting, tracking expenditures, and reporting. Provide financial insights and recommendations to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and efficient resource utilization.
- Procurement Officer: Manage technology procurement processes, including vendor selection, contract negotiation, and purchase orders. Ensure compliance with university policies and budget constraints.
- Helpdesk Manager: Supervise and enhance the helpdesk staff and operations. Develop and implement strategies to improve support services, ensure timely resolution of technical issues, and maintain high user satisfaction levels.
- Classroom Technology Support: Oversee the support of technology in classrooms. Ensure that all classroom technology (e.g., projectors, smart boards, audio-visual equipment) is functioning properly and provide technical assistance and training to faculty and staff as needed.
