Overview:

E2 is looking for a Senior Substation Design Engineer to join our team in the greater Los Angeles area to support several major electric utility clients. Responsible for the design of deliverables associated with substation design projects supporting one of our largest electric utility clients. The substation “physical” design activities include yard layouts, plans, sections and details, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, interior and exterior raceways, auxiliary AC/DC power systems, and associated bills of material. The substation “protection and control” design activities include one-line and three-line diagrams, AC & DC elementary and logic diagrams, front and rear panel elevations and wiring, supervisory and control drawings, electrical vendor equipment wiring diagrams, complete cable schedule and bill of materials. The position will report directly to the Substation Engineering Manager or Director of Engineering.

Responsibilities:

1. Attends project site visits to assist in the development of scope of work and help define project objectives.
2. Prepares engineering cost estimates, man-hour estimates, and schedules.
3. Develops top-level documents for Electrical Physical and Protection & Control packages.
4. Provides guidance to junior engineers and/or designers in the development of detailed design documents.
5. Performs calculations for studies and reports including, but not limited to, grounding & lightning protection, and AC/DC load studies.
6. Performs quality control reviews of design calculations and drawings.
7. Provides short-term field support during construction.
8. Coordinates design activities with other disciplines (Civil/structural, telecom, transmission, etc.).
9. Serves as technical advisor for the team.
10. Properly applies client’s substation design standards.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
2. 8+ years of experience working in substation design or similar with utility or consulting engineering firm.
3. Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook).
4. Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
5. Basic written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Professional Engineer’s License in Electrical Engineering (not required).
2. High level understanding of Southern California Edison’s substation design standards.
3. Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.

Wage Data Per State Requirements:

Salary range for this position is $110,000 - $160,000. The starting salary will be commensurate with skill, education, experience, and working environment.
