What You Will Achieve
Working with Pfizer’s dynamic engineering team, you will be responsible for overseeing the mechanical systems planning, design, estimating, construction and commissioning for global real estate capital projects, serving as a liaison between project engineers and planning, project team, and line management. You will review project status, budgets, schedules and prepare status reports. Your organizational and problem-solving skills will help in assessing project issues and developing resolutions in order to meet productivity, quality and client satisfaction goals.
You will play a pivotal role in the engineering and execution of projects that enhance Pfizer’s workplace infrastructure reliability, capability, and efficiency. In this role, you will apply mechanical engineering expertise to lead the design, implementation, and optimization of mechanical systems, ensuring they meet the stringent and regulated requirements of the pharmaceutical industry. You will provide guidance to operational teams for managing projects, and be proactive in providing areas of improvement for products, processes or services. Through your comprehensive knowledge of principles, concepts and theories of the discipline, you will work towards advancing new concepts and methodologies. You will take a leadership role in facilitating agreements between teams and problem-solving with project managers, line managers, and clients.

How You Will Achieve It
- Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of mechanical engineering projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Design mechanical systems, including HVAC, clean rooms, and utilities, using advanced engineering principles and tools.
- Provide guidance, lead/co-lead projects, manage own time to meet objectives, and plan resource requirements for projects across the department. Develop comprehensive project plans, including timelines, resource allocation, budgeting, and risk management strategies. Ensure projects are completed within approved scope, budget, schedule, and alignment with the master plan. Prepare detailed reports and presentations to communicate project progress, outcomes, and recommendations to senior management.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including R&D, production, quality, and external contractors, to ensure seamless project integration. Work in a business partner relationship with operations to lead and manage a portfolio of high-impact, high-criticality capital projects supporting update and expansion of aseptic filling and freeze-drying operations at Pfizer's product manufacturing facility. Effectively interact with leadership and partner with Operations to establish priorities and define requirements for the portfolio of projects within the assigned area.
- Oversee the commissioning and qualification of new mechanical systems, ensuring they meet all GMP, FDA, and EMA requirements.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system performance, reliability, and efficiency.
- Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for proposed engineering solutions.
- Serve as the technical lead for mechanical engineering inquiries, providing expert guidance and support to stakeholders.
- Participate in factory acceptance testing (FATs) as needed for critical mechanical systems.
- Assist project sponsors with the preparation of Capital Project Appropriation requests (CPAs).
- Possess and maintain a working familiarity with current industry best practices in these areas. Maintain technical skills in the latest techniques for project management and pharmaceutical processing technology.
- Ensure our API capital investments use the best technology, have the best outcomes for our business, and align with contemporary standards.
- Serve as subject matter expert for one or more critical aseptic processing areas.
- Lead all aspects of facility planning for the site, including facility strategies, execute facility capital projects, determine facility capital investments, etc.
- Interface with engineering team to ensure project compliance with applicable Pfizer Global Manufacturing (PGM) standards, follow all PGM best practices and comply with Pfizer Quality Standards.
- Develop business plans to enable forecasting and occupant tracking system.
Qualifications
Must-Have
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- 5+ years of proven experience in a relevant field within the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry
- Subject matter expertise in ASHRAE standards
- Familiar with Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratory (BMBL) guidelines
- Knowledgeable in FDA, EMA, GxP and ICH regulatory requirements. Good working knowledge of GxP facility/equipment validation requirements
- Proficiency in CAD software (Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud)
- Experience implementing sustainable design and building practices
- HVAC equipment, Chillers/Boilers, operation and maintenance experience
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders, cross-functional teams, consultants, and vendors
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and lead cross-functional teams, including delegation, monitoring work completion, tracking performance against approved plans and reacting appropriately to unexpected outcomes
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to analyze complex information, make sound decisions with minimal escalation, and handle ambiguity.
- Demonstrated commitment to values-based leadership
- Strong project and process management skills; knowledge of project management methodologies, tools, and software
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Nice-to-Have
- Professional Engineering license
- Master's degree
- Relevant pharmaceutical or medical device experience
Physical/Mental Requirements
- Ability to perform complex problem solving and analysis of financial, logistics and engineering issues
- Knowledge of legal, regulatory, and safety standards in real estate and construction
