PAY RANGE
The Target Pay Range for this position is $134,200.00-$164,000.00 annually. The full Pay Range is $104,200.00 - $194,000.00 annually. At BECU, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, and education or training. Should an offer for employment be made, we will consider individual qualifications. In addition to your salary, compensation incentives are available for the hired applicant. Incentives are performance based and targets vary by role.

As a Senior Data Engineer at BECU, you will play a pivotal role in designing and developing complex data workflows that power the organization’s data-driven decisions. You’ll lead development efforts, build enterprise-class data pipelines, and mentor other data engineers, ensuring high standards for data management, governance, and scalability. By applying your deep expertise in coding, data modeling, and cloud platforms, you’ll help solve critical business problems and contribute to the design and architecture of BECU’s data solutions. Your insights and collaboration with business and systems analysts will drive the success of data initiatives across the enterprise.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Design and Develop Data Workflows: Create and optimize multi-tier systems by designing, coding, testing, debugging, and documenting complex data workflows and pipelines.
- Lead and Mentor Data Engineers: Provide mentorship and guidance to data engineering teams, automating and improving business data processes and interactions with limited guidance.
- Present and Communicate Technical Topics: Share knowledge by presenting complex data engineering concepts and solutions to the larger technical community, fostering collaboration and innovation.
- Coordinate Complex Development Efforts: Lead the design and development efforts of data workflows and pipelines, ensuring the implementation of technical requirements across projects.
- Prototype and Innovate: Develop prototypes and proofs of concept that combine your deep technical expertise with data workflow design to drive innovation and problem-solving.
- Implement Data Governance: Support the implementation of metadata management, master data policies, and data governance into data workflows, ensuring compliance with organizational standards.
- Organize Data Curation Policies: Lead efforts to establish and enforce data curation policies that ensure data quality, accessibility, and consistency across workflows and pipelines.
- Collaborate on Technology Roadmaps: Work with Architects and Product Owners to design and document the technology roadmap, contributing to the team’s long-term data strategy and vision.
- Enhance Code Quality and Standards: Enforce coding standards across teams, ensuring quality, extensibility, and scalability of data solutions in alignment with BECU’s technical vision.

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of five years of functional experience in data engineering.
- Minimum of four years of experience with coding languages such as Python, Scala, Java, SQL.
- Experience using cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Hands-on experience with modern data platforms such as Azure Synapse, Databricks, Redshift, BigQuery, or Snowflake.
- Experience with ETL/ELT, SQL, and cloud data integration tools (e.g., Azure Data Factory, AWS Glue, Informatica).
- Experience in data modeling, data warehousing, and data analysis.
- Experience with master data (MDM), metadata, and data governance tools (e.g., Alation, Erwin, Collibra, Azure Purview, Informatica).
- Experience using Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub.
- Experience with Git, including code reviews, pull requests, and following branching standards such as Git Flow or Trunk-Based Development.
- Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD) concepts, methods, and tools, and experience in unit, integration, and performance/load testing.
- Ability to deliver scalable data solutions using programming languages compatible with BECU’s technical environments over the entire data lifecycle (from ideation to retirement).
- Experience staying current with emerging data technologies and applying them in practical, real-world scenarios.
- Ability to lead and collaborate with teams, including cross-functional business units, to deliver solutions throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with presenting technical topics to audiences, both technical and non-technical.
