Job Summary: We have an immediate opening for a Director of Construction Engineering Services at our Stamford, CT location. This role will primarily involve assisting the Executive Vice President in overseeing departmental operations. The Director will be responsible for ensuring timely and budget-conscious completion of projects, while adhering to contractual obligations, applicable codes, and the company's internal work product standards. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 7 years of experience in Civil/Structural/Construction, Architectural Engineering or a related field.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Ensures adherence to project plans and timelines.
  2. Assists the Executive Vice President with communicating and enforcing values, policies, and procedures.
  3. Contributes to the organization’s success by welcoming related, different, and new requests.
  4. Final review of all reports, letters, bids, specifications, construction drawings, exhibits, etc. written by staff.
  5. Delegates project work to Engineers, Architects, Project Managers & Project Associates.
  6. Coordinates with in-house professionals to complete all aspects of designs.
  7. Represents clients in obtaining bids and awarding construction contracts.
  8. Communicates status and issues, resolves discrepancies and problems.
  9. Uses construction inspection report data to prepare payment estimates as a recommendation for payment to contractors.
  10. Prioritizes and manages multiple projects within design specifications and budget restrictions.
  11. Provides leadership direction through sharing techniques and problem-solving approaches.
  12. Coordinates and manages internal kick-off, milestone and closeout meetings for projects.
  13. Reviews the work of the department.
  14. Verifies schedules and ensures adherence to project plans.
  15. Collects post-project feedback to identify issues and opportunities for improvement.
  16. Measures and monitors project performance and creates project status reports.
  17. Provides guidance and mentoring to Project Associates.
  18. Works closely with teams to understand the scope of work, budget, goals, deliverables, and timeline.
  19. Conducts on-site inspections and documents existing conditions.
  20. Maintains organized records, files, drawings, or other data essential to the project.
  21. Reviews construction plans and prepares written correspondence with clients, attorneys, contractors, etc.
  22. Prepares investigation reports and bid documents, including drawings and technical specifications.
  23. Preparation of Construction Cost Estimates.
  24. Knowledge of local and state building codes.
  25. Improves job knowledge by attending educational workshops and participating in professional societies.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Oversees designated staff within the department. This position will be remote initially and will require travel to and from various field and contractor sites.

Qualifications:

  1. Education: Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field.
  2. Work Experience: Seven years’ experience required in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management or related field.
  3. Licenses and Certifications: OSHA-10 Certification preferred, else must complete within three months from hire date. Licensed Professional Engineer or Registered Architect/recognized industry certifications. Valid United States Driver’s License required.

Skills: Excellent management skills, written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational skills, ability to handle multiple projects, and proficiency in AutoCAD preferred.
