Who will you be working with?

The Director of Software Engineering is responsible for driving engineering excellence in quality, cost, and delivery on the KinetiX Vision (wayside monitoring) product lines within Digital Intelligence. As the leader of Software Engineering, you will lead a team of globally located engineers in building products for wayside-mounted predictive maintenance.

The Director of Software Engineering will report directly to the overall engineering leader of Analytics (KinetiX) Engineering. The Director of Software Engineering will work with other engineering disciplines to deliver holistic product solutions. The Director of Software Engineering will work with product management to understand market needs & vision. The Director of Software Engineering will work with project delivery teams, product owners, and architects to develop software development plans.

How will you make a difference?

As the Director of Software Engineering, you will lead, mentor, and coach a diverse group of software engineers. The Director of Software Engineering (KinetiX) is accountable for functional, business, and engineering objectives related to software functionality for wayside monitoring equipment. In this role, you will integrate and develop products that meet business needs, manage complex issues within functional areas of expertise, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy.

What do we want to know about you?

  • Bachelor’s/Masters Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) or relevant engineering degree.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the software and/or analytics domain.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in an engineering leadership/management role.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in rail industry technology.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in wayside measurement industry technology.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in computer vision and machine learning.
  • Thorough knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle principles.
  • Through working knowledge of CI/CD concepts and best practices.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Willingness to travel (15%).

What will your typical day look like?

  • Build and lead a world-class software development team to consistently deliver complex software platforms and integrated wayside monitoring products.
  • Lead the team with a thorough understanding of product development practices and successful problem definition, decomposition, estimation, and resolution.
  • Deliver resource strategy and plans, including the use of 3rd parties/partners, to achieve development deliverables according to time plans.
  • Focus the engineering teams on areas of highest value to the customer and ensure that everything we do is in direct support of business growth.
  • Drive increased efficiency across the teams by eliminating duplication, and leveraging product and technology reuse.
  • Work collaboratively with partners on technology delivery and have a relentless desire to drive value for our Rail customers through technology and analytics-based solutions.
  • Implement and elevate professional software engineering best practices including coding standards, code reviews, SCM, CI, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Integrate machine vision software with frameworks for computer vision, machine learning algorithms, image processing, and calibration.
  • Ensure compliance with AGILE methodology, Cyber Security Standards, and Quality expectations across our product lines and ensure the team is educated on those expectations and operates efficiently to achieve them.
  • Keep project data relating to tracking and financials current, especially driving rigor and detail in engineering demand planning. Make data-driven decisions on costs and resources to support given initiatives.
