SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that quality product is manufactured according to established standards and that all customer requirements are met for their assigned value stream while personifying the “One Team” concept throughout Band-IT. This includes conducting audits of production parts and processes, leading efforts in resolving customer complaints, and owning the corrective action process. Other responsibilities include maintaining and reporting on quality process dashboards, creating inspection programs using CMM and/or vision systems, facilitating the PPAP process, supplier audits, and representation of quality interests in various meetings and teams.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understands all of Band-IT’s quality systems and works to ensure cross functional support of the existing quality systems.
  • Leads cross functional teams in problem solving and process improvement for customer complaints; owns validation of implementation of corrective actions and gives timely feedback where required; tracks corrective actions to closure.
  • Works with commercial team to understand and complete PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) as required by customer.
  • Coordinates SWRs with production to create samples needed for PPAP, and completes sampling/testing as required.
  • Works to ensure timely submittal as required by customer.
  • Completes annual validations proactively; ensures timely response to all customer requests.
  • Owns synergy/inspection files for their value stream and generates updates for the in-process inspection systems risk based thinking.
  • Monitors inspection status and SPC results to ensure product conformity and elevates issues to Quality Manager when identified.
  • Works on cross-functional teams to create/manage control plans and PFMEA’s for products and processes.
  • Leads regular reviews to assess existing control plans using risked based thinking.
  • Leads/Participates in the MRB process for product related to the value stream, including dispositioning suspect or non-conforming product.
  • Participates in customer care meetings to review customer complaints and develops plans to ensure customer satisfaction by identifying trends in customer complaints and initiating appropriate countermeasures to contain and reduce defects that occur in manufacturing/assembly/material handling processes.
  • Conducts process audits in various manufacturing departments to ensure that operators are producing parts to specifications and following established procedures.
  • Documents observations and presents findings and action items to departmental supervisor(s), follows-up on action items through completion.
  • Creates and documents standard work processes, visual aids, and quality alerts as required.
  • Create and execute inspection programs (as well as training other personnel) using CMM, vision system, and other inspection techniques to ensure incoming parts are to print specifications.
  • Conducts and maintains Gauge R&R schedule for assigned value stream.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, mechanical, industrial, or related field preferred.
  • 3-5+ years of experience as a Quality Engineer in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience and knowledge of statistical quality control.
  • Experience working with automotive customers and/or knowledge of automotive quality tools including but not limited to:
    • PPAP’s
    • Advanced Part Quality Planning
    • FMEA’s
    • Conducting RCCM using tools such as 8D, 5Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, etc.
    • Experience conducting Gauge R&R’s.
  • Experience with GD&T and measurement techniques.
  • Experience/ability to create CMM programs and working with vision systems (example – Keyence).
  • Experience auditing internal processes/suppliers to ISO9001, AS9100, IATF 16949 standards preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all layers of management as well customers/suppliers.

Physical Demands:

  • Approximately 40% of the time will be spent on the floor.
  • Approximately 10% of the time is spent bending and crouching.
  • Requires use of hands and arms at least 60% of the time.
  • Lifting requirements are generally less than 10 lbs. Lifting could occasionally reach the company maximum of 65 lbs.

Work Environment:

  • Time is primarily spent in a climate-controlled office, with the balance in a shop environment.
  • Noise exposure is light to moderate.

Mental/Visual Demands:

  • Close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus are necessary to perform the job functions.
  • Peripheral vision is required for safety.

Total Rewards

The compensation range for this position is $64,200.00 - $96,400.00, depending on experience. This position may be eligible for performance based bonus plan.
