Job Description:
As a satellite systems engineer at NOAA/NESDIS, you will:
  • Provide systems engineering services that encompass a broad range of professional services that focus on the conception, design, development, maintenance, and evolution of specific software applications
  • Oversee the design and development of satellite application processing systems that traverse the product lifecycle including transition to operations
  • Manage the end to end product lifecycle process for scientific application processing systems and their products
  • Guide science teams through the cloud onboarding process and the transition to operations of their software applications
  • Work with NESDIS partners to collaboratively meet NOAA's diverse user needs by: enhancing products to enhance user experience; maximizing the exploitation of new satellite data sources; streamlining transition of cutting-edge research into operations
  • Support value-based decisions on investments in support of user priorities - providing and maximizing value through its management processes.
  • Efficiently transition new and enhanced products from science to operations while taking advantage of the development speed and data pipelines within the NESDIS Common Cloud Framework (NCCF)

Job Requirements
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, experience coordinating with multiplestakeholders
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident / Green Card holder with at least 2 yearsresiding in the US.
Essential Requirements:
  • Systems engineering experience at NOAA, NASA or DoD for ground or flight missions
  • Knowledge of the NOAA ground system architecture, current missions and NOAAmanagement staff through previous direct assignment
  • Knowledge of NOAA data products and services
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering or related discipline with 2-15 years of experience
  • Program or project management experience or ability to quickly learn
