Position Overview:

TheSoftware Engineer – Technologies Development will coordinate the execution of software development for the integration of advanced technology into the JBPCO Business Unit truck bodies on electric vehicle chassis. Key technologies include (but are not limited to) basic software infrastructure / architecture for embedded systems, telematics, cloud applications, cameras, proximity detection, automation, autonomous driving, and power management. Duties will include working closely with the systems engineering team to capture and document the software functionality requirements for the incorporation of the new technologies into the various business units, assist in the identification of the most appropriate supplier(s) as collaboration partners in the development and integration of the technologies, and help in the creation of bucks and other physical properties as platforms to demonstrate the technologies. The position will also support the integration of these technologies into current and future vehicle architectures, from a software architecture and development perspective. This includes build support and debugging.

This is a role for an electronics and/or computer science engineer who has 6-10 years of relevant experience and demonstrated success in the development of novel and/or advanced software technologies as outlined above. Commercial vehicle applications / integrations of these technologies are of particular interest. Experience with alternative fuel or electric vehicle development and/or manufacturing highly desired.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Overall SW technology architecture design, development, integration, and validation.
  • Support of a short- and long-term technology roadmap to ensure facilitation of technical requirements, concept prioritization and sharing across JBPCO business units. Meet with the various JBPCO business unit representatives to ensure good alignment with EAVX workplan.
  • Development of product documentation including specifications, architecture documents, BOM, flow diagrams, control drawings, feasibility assessments, analyses and test reports in support of a formal product development process.
  • SW system and subsystem level simulation (e.g. HIL) and testing.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance, DFMEA, DVP, and other gate deliverables throughout the gate review process.
  • Act as the liaison to SW suppliers and manufacturers including development, integration, productionization and validation planning.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in either Electronics Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Computer Science with mechatronics experience.
  • 6-10 years of Automotive industry experience, or relevant experience from another industry.
  • Ability to travel periodically to different JBPCO Business Units.
  • Demonstrated experience with advanced technology development in collaboration with appropriate supply base.
  • Demonstrated hands on experience with coding and debugging using prototype hardware.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of simple financial analyses in support of the development of the value proposition of candidate technologies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated experience making presentations and technical reports.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Experience with Automotive SPICE framework and ISO 26262 standard.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Automotive industry experience with Commercial Vehicle applications.
  • Vehicle electrical integration experience.
  • Practical experience with Controller Area Network (CAN bus) and tools (Vector CANalyzer, etc).
  • Proficient user of Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow, C/C++, Java programming languages for embedded applications.
  • Experienced in software testing and validation.
  • Demonstrated experience with simulation analysis and reporting in support of technology assessments.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing and software architecture design for edge and cloud computing applications.
