Overview:

Merrick & Company’s Nuclear Services & Technology team provides full service nuclear design solutions to the federal government (DOE, NNSA, and NIST), nuclear research, and nuclear medicine. Merrick is seeking a highly motivated, team oriented Mechanical Engineer to support our operations in our Aiken, SC office.

Typical annual pay range for this position is $120,000 - $154,000. Pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience.

What You'll Do:

The successful candidate will design HVAC and Plumbing/Piping systems for a variety of facility projects. Tasks include:

  1. Developing design calculations, process flow diagrams, sequences of operation, equipment selection and layout, ductwork and piping sizing and layout.
  2. Support of project proposals, interdisciplinary coordination, and participating in QA/QC processes.
  3. Part-time efforts will be devoted to site inspection and construction administration.
  4. Direct the work of junior engineers and designers, and delegate work as required.
  5. Develop calculations, flow diagrams, and specifications.
  6. Size and layout ductwork, hydronic, and plumbing piping systems.
  7. Lead QA/QC processes.
  8. Be proficient with codes, standards, and guidelines.
  9. Periodic visits to job sites.

Qualifications:

Degree Requirements: Bachelor of Sciences in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET Accredited Program.
Experience: Minimum of twelve (12) years related experience.
Licensing: Candidate must have their Professional Engineering (PE) license in SC, TN, or NM or be able to receive reciprocity within 6 months.
Skills: Must understand the importance of Business Development, project management for A-E firms, and demonstrate skills in multi-discipline teams.
Position requires the ability to manage other engineers and designers.
Experience interfacing with client contacts.
Strong experience with thermal load calculation and energy modeling for mechanical systems.
Strong experience in calculating and sizing of mechanical equipment including AHUs, fans, and pumps.
Strong experience in sizing and laying out ductwork and hydronic piping systems.
Must be familiar with AutoCAD and have experience with Revit building information modeling software.
Additional Requirement: Client projects require U.S. Citizenship.
