Information Technology

The following are the duties of this position at the full working level:

  • The work of this position requires ensuring the integration of IT programs and services; developing solutions to integration/interoperability issues; designing, developing, and managing IT security systems that meet current and future business requirements, and apply or extend, enhance, or optimize the existing architecture; managing assigned projects; communicating complex technical requirements to non-technical personnel; and preparing and presenting briefings to senior management officials on complex/controversial issues. Such work assignments include leading IT development projects in software analysis, design, development, and implementation for a new system or major enhancement to an existing system.
  • Identifying resource requirements and assigning tasks to project members, reporting progress, and ensuring customer and management involvement throughout the software development process.
  • Resolving critical issues affecting the configuration of the IT infrastructure and coordinating the demonstration of new and enhanced applications to customers and management.

  • Telework Eligible Positions : Telework eligible positions do not guarantee telework. Employees must meet and sustain IRS telework eligibility requirements (e.g., reporting at least twice a pay period to your assigned Post of Duty (POD)) and supervisor's approval to participate in the IRS Telework Program. Employees must also be within a 200-mile radius of their official assigned post-of-duty (POD) while in a telework status.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.

Qualifications

Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or a combination thereof. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. You must meet the following requirements by the time of referral:

BASIC REQUIREMENTS GS-5 AND All GRADES: Experience must include Information Technology (IT) related experience that demonstrates each of the following four competencies: 1) Attention to Detail, 2) Customer Service, 3) Oral Communication and 4) Problem Solving.

GS-7 LEVEL: To be eligible for this position at this grade level, you must meet one of the following requirements:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service.

OR EDUCATION: 1 full academic year of graduate education at an accredited college or university in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics or technology management.

GS-9 LEVEL: To be eligible for this position at this grade level, you must meet one of the following:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service.

OR EDUCATION: A master's or equivalent graduate degree or two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree.

  • A 1-year probationary period is required.

  • Tour of Duty: Day Shift - Start and stop times between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
