Our client, a 168-year-old full-service law firm with offices in Detroit, Ann Arbor, Oakland County, Lansing, New York, and Washington, D.C., is looking to expand its Aerospace & Defense (“A&D”) practice, seeking both partner-level established attorneys with a book of business as well as associate-level support for existing clients.


LOCATION
Michigan or Washington, DC


Major Responsibilities

  1. Experience in advising clients on issues in government and commercial contracts involving A&D matters, drafting legal memoranda, bid protests, REAs and claims, and substantive policy articles and commentary.
  2. Experience researching the law applicable to government contracts and subcontracts, administrative law and regulatory requirements at the federal and state level.

  2. Communication skills, both oral and written.
  3. Efficient, creative, and effective legal researcher.
  4. Proficient in the use of legal research services.
  5. Sound, independent judgment.
  6. Able to work independently with minimal or no supervision.
  7. Able to manage new and existing client relationships.
  8. Desire to be actively involved in business development.

Education, Experience And/Or Training

  1. 3+ years of experience in federal government contracts, with some experience in U.S. export controls, including OFAC sanctions. More lengthy experience a plus.
  2. Space law experience a plus.
  3. Experience with the FAR, DFARS, other agency FAR supplements, size protests; teaming agreements, JVs and mentor/protégé; subcontracting and supply chain; data rights; M&A; including compliance, plus transactional and litigation support.
  4. Experience representing clients in administrative or court proceedings, including bid protests and claims, internal and government investigations, and compliance planning and training.
  5. Admitted to the State Bar of Michigan or the D.C. Bar or to practice in the courts in Maryland or Virginia, or eligible for admission by anticipated start date.
  6. Portable book of business a plus.
  7. Experience with government contracting cost issues, government and commercial IP rights, FMS, FMF, security clearances and FOCI, and CFIUS a plus.
