Position Summary
The CNC Machinist IV oversees and directs activities of assigned personnel according to daily production requirements by performing the following duties. The role requires the above to be accomplished within Tecomet’s principles of continuous improvement, customer-driven innovation, and a win-first culture, while meeting company financial and other performance metrics.
Principle Responsibilities
Supervises staff engaged in operational activities on designated shift; accountable for the performance of Cell Leads and other assigned employees.
Ensures execution of daily activities of department staff on designated shift; establishes or adjusts work procedures/schedules to support business targets.
Evaluates work performance, provides regular feedback, and administers performance evaluations to assigned staff.
Involved in interviewing, hiring and selecting candidates.
Administers coaching, counseling, and corrective action to assigned employees.
Oversees training process, inclusive of the Employee Training Records (ETR), for assigned employees in proper techniques for given operations or jobs.
Engages in daily GEMBA process to ensure support and engagement of employees, as well as product flow between departments.
Reviews operational documentation for accuracy and drives timely ownership and resolution to area Countermeasures.
Ensures Safety, 5S, and housekeeping standards are met.
Actively participates in Kaizen and Six-Sigma activities to support Policy Deployment / CIP and improve operating results.
Works with area leaders on production issues and communicates with other departments as needed to resolve issues via GEMBA and other available processes.
Reviews prior days production output and makes corrections as needed.
Verifies employee time keeping records and adjusts as needed.
Monitors supply levels for assigned areas and works in conjunction with outside suppliers and contractors as needed.
Required to support all departments on shift as needed not only departments assigned on regular basis.
Leads periodic employee meetings as needed or assigned.
Responsible for the overall supervision of employees, in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Accountable for interviewing, hiring, training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising and rewarding performance; disciplining; suspending and discharging employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Also responsible for managing safety, 5S, and Gemba countermeasures, HS&E incident reporting and corrective actions, input and trends for statistical process control (SPC) via WinSPC, preventative maintenance and gage calibration schedules and adherence, as well as employee training records (ETR).
Work well under pressure and to remain flexible to changing schedules and demands.
Must develop and maintain courteous and effective working relationships.
Must be sufficiently adaptable to accept and perform in a timely and effective manner with minimal or no advanced notice.
Effectively meets communication expectations with other members of management as defined by the organization.
Additional duties as requested by management.
Qualification Requirements
Credentials/Experience:
High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required
7+ years CNC Machining experience.
Experience/Educational/Training Preferred:
Experience of working in a production environment, preferred
Associate degree/certificate in Tooling & Machining or Machinist apprenticeship preferred.
GCSE/NVQ Math and English is desirable (UK only)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to operate, set up, and maintain a CNC Machine
Ability to run multiple CNC Machines
Ability to set up, adjust offsets and operate and run development and production jobs
Ability to program with some level of supervision
Solid necessary math skills, including measuring and keeping count records
Effective at planning, prioritizing, and organizing tasks and activities with the ability to deal with competing demands within specified timescales
Able to read and follow technical drawings and diagrammed instructions
Proven record of quality, on-time production runs
Demonstrable commitment to safety always
Attention to detail alongside ability to perform repeatable task over a prolonged period
Positive attitude, reliable, and a team player
Problem solving ability
Good communication skills, written and verbal
Solid computer skills
Ability to train new or lower-level machinist
