Accurate and actionable insights are key to our mission of building stronger workplaces. Analytics plays a key role in our product offerings, our daily operations, and the choices we make as we run our business. At HqO, the Intelligence team is responsible for building out the analytics layer that enables data-driven decision-making - both for our customers and ourselves. As an Analytics Engineer, you will collaborate with Product, Design, and other Engineering squads to support our client-facing Intelligence product, design new data models, and create data visualizations in Looker. The team is small but growing, so you will have the opportunity to develop ownership in core subject areas of our platform and help us expand the scope of our product offerings and internal reporting capabilities.

Responsibilities:

1. Work as part of a cross-functional squad to develop new features for our client-facing Intelligence product
2. Architect and build company-wide single source of truth data models using dbt, with an emphasis on efficiency, reusability, and extensibility
3. Design intuitive and flexible Looker explores and visualizations for internal self-service and external clients
4. Partner with the Product team to support tracking and analysis of user engagement and other company metrics
5. Promote best practices around data governance, metric standardization, and data testing
6. Enable data democratization and data literacy across the company through documentation, training, and self-service tooling

Qualifications:

1. 4+ years of experience in analytics engineering, data analytics, or related field - working with data warehouses, modeling, and BI platforms
2. Expert-level proficiency in SQL, with knowledge of more advanced concepts (window functions, JSON parsing, query optimization, etc)
3. Significant experience building dimensional data models using dbt (or similar modern data transformation tool)
4. Experience with cloud data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery)
5. Strong sense of project ownership with an aptitude for translating loosely-defined business requirements into executable action plans
6. Passion for working in a fast-paced, high-tech, and customer-obsessed environment

Bonus points:

1. Experience creating visualizations in a modern BI tool (e.g., Looker, Mode, Tableau)
2. Experience with metrics layer/headless BI tools (e.g., Cube, dbt MetricFlow, Metricql)
3. Experience working on a client-facing data product
4. Experience with app usage data
