We are seeking a commissioning and Start-Up Engineer for either Houston TX or our Allentown, PA global headquarters who will provide Commissioning & Startup Leadership support to new plants, retrofit projects, and turnarounds from development to start up, and will support asset management/productivity initiatives for all America's (the Region) Projects through the coordination of the activities from the engineers & operations teams stationed at plants.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide & maintain a safe work environment for self & others. Employ good housekeeping methods and demonstrate leadership with all company & industry safe work processes to prevent injuries. Ensure proper documentation is maintained for safety related activities.
  • The position, depending on the incumbent, will primarily support Hydrogen Electrolysis processes and may support other technologies which include: Air Separation (both large and Generated gas facilities), HYCO, Helium, Gasification, and Ammonia.
  • Commission and startup the units as prescribed by the Work Instruction Procedures.
  • A member of the field leadership team to plan, manage, and prepare equipment and systems for first time startup.
  • Develop work processes and strategy for field construction and commissioning of rotating equipment.
  • Understand PLC and DCS controls, logic, PID tuning, and advanced control systems.
  • Setting the strategy and leading support contractors and personnel to properly install and startup equipment.
  • Lead and provide commissioning support in the new installation, existing plant modifications, on-going operations, and continuous improvement and maintenance activities for the facilities in the Region. Ensure the activities related meet legal requirements and comply with Air Products safety and operations standards.
  • Mentor site operations and engineering teams in managing plant production efficiently based on input provided from Plant Management and Plant Process Engineering to ensure safety and reliability targets are met to achieve maximum profitability. Utilize the PIC center when applicable to assist the local teams for day to day operations.
  • Provide Commissioning, Startup, Operations and Technical Sales Support to the Equipment Sales & Product Services Team for new installations, existing plant modifications, on-going operations, and continuous improvement and maintenance activities for Air Products joint ventures, sale of equipment and potential new customers in the Region.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Engineering graduate (bachelor's in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering as a minimum preferred).
  • 12 years of Operations, Commissioning, Startup or Engineering in a technical or plant role. Demonstrated 'hands-on' ability to operate, commission, startup, troubleshoot, and repair various plant related issues. Experience and knowledge in the technology, design, and operation of Hydrogen Electrolyzers, Chloro - Alkili and/or PEM process.
  • Knowledge in additional technologies a plus: Air Separation, HYCO, Gasification, Sulphur Recovery & Helium process systems preferred.
  • Strong background in all aspects of operating facilities including machinery, instrumentation and controls, electrical, mechanical systems, and advanced controls across multiple technologies.
  • Ability to read P&IDs, isometrics, interpret design curves of field machinery, & function checking of field equipment. Field construction and commissioning experience desired.
  • Knowledgeable in process safety, health, and local environmental requirements. A strong commitment to employee involvement, team building and diversity.
  • Regional travel of 80 - 85% per year with potential Global travel.
  • The ability to represent the America's Commissioning and Startup Engineering Organization and Air Products in front of our stakeholders (project teams, construction, operations, and our customers).
  • The ability to understand and the desire to learn a wide array of plant disciplines including electrical, piping, mechanical, controls, instrumentation, systems. Able to communicate between management, operations, maintenance, customers.
