Assistant/Associate Professor of Civil Engineering (Structural Engr)

Position Title: Assistant/Associate Professor of Civil Engineering (Structural Engr)

Job Posting Number: 2025027TTL

Job Location: San Marcos

Department: Ingram School of Engineering

Position Description: The Ingram School of Engineering at Texas State University invites applications for a tenured or tenure track associate professor or tenure track assistant professor position in structural engineering area starting in fall 2025.

Texas State University launched its Civil Engineering (CE) program under the Ingram School of Engineering in 2019. The CE program received EAC ABET accreditation in 2024 and now has 15 faculty members serving 440 undergraduate and 50 graduate and PhD students. In 2024, Texas State established the PhD in CE program, focusing on leadership, innovation, communication, and entrepreneurship in infrastructure. This exclusive program integrates Civil Engineering principles with entrepreneurial skills and technology-enhanced infrastructure (TEI), making it the first of its kind in Texas.

CE program has excellent laboratory facilities, including the recently opened $15M state-of-the-art Infrastructure Research Laboratory (IRL). The IRL houses a reinforced concrete strong floor and reaction wall, cutting-edge equipment including a comprehensive range of hydraulic actuators, pumps, closed loop loading systems, and data acquisition systems that permit for complex large-scale structural and material testing. The candidate is expected to maintain an externally funded research program featuring large-scale structural engineering experimental work in the IRL.

The selected candidate will be given the appropriate rank based on college and university regulations. This position is subject to the availability of funds.

Required Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate in civil engineering, or a closely related discipline with a concentration in structural engineering.
  • Proven ability as an effective instructor of record in undergraduate and graduate academic environments.
  • Evidence of intellectual and academic accomplishments, including a strong publication record in reputable peer-review journals, and a diverse portfolio of external funding in the area of structural engineering for an appointment at the rank of associate professor.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) Licensure/Registration, or the ability to obtain licensure within three years of initial hire.
  • Effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstration of the potential to build a sustainable and impactful research program in the area of structural engineering for a tenure track appointment at the rank of assistant professor.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to secure funding from various sources such as federal agencies, state agencies, industry and other organizations for conducting research using experimental testing of structures of large sizes and large scale in the setting of a structural lab with strong wall and strong floor.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in structural engineering research with a demonstrated record of accomplishment, significant achievement, and leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to run a large-scale structural testing laboratory and lead a diverse team of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Expertise in large-scale modeling and testing, or computational structural simulation of infrastructure systems.
  • Expertise in durability, resiliency, sustainability, and life-cycle assessment of infrastructure systems, particularly related to the application of technology to design, construct, monitor, and manage infrastructure systems.
  • Experience in advising and mentoring PhD through candidacy and graduation.
  • Ability to successfully form and lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in conducting collaborative research.
  • Experience in advising and mentoring students in academic environments with a diverse population.
