The engineer will working to complete projects that support our utility customer. They will work with in-house and client engineers and designers. They will provide, coordinate, and conduct training to lower level engineers.Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesDevelop project scopes, one line diagrams, and estimates for substation projectsReview substation construction drawings such as electrical arrangements, plan and section views, grounding, cable and conduit drawings, and other project documents and verify compliance with appropriate codes and standardsEngineer and design lightning protection, grounding, and equipment replacement and repair for substationsMake necessary changes and corrections to drawings and documentationVerify the proper use of equipment and material according to project documentation standards and codesVerify that material and equipment are ordered and delivered on time for substation constructionTravel to project sites for walk downs and gathering information to develop the correct requirements for the projects to scope and develop substationsFunction as a project lead for substation projectsPerform all engineering and design activities with minimum directionLead, facilitate, and coordinate work activities of others within the work group, team, department, or those external to complete substation projectsProvide training and guidance to lower level employeesIdentify and initiate corrective action when substation project objectives are not being metInterpret codes and regulations and develop standards for construction projectsPromote engineering professionalism and standardsParticipate in development of plans by establishing goals, objectives, and requirementsWork under supervision of higher level engineersPosition will require occasional site visitsEducation and Experience RequirementsA PE License is requiredMinimum of five years of experience in utilities working with substationsMinimum of five years of experience completing engineering projects from start to finishMinimum of five years of experience scoping, estimating, and ordering materials for substationsBachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering from an accredited institutionMaster’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering from an accredited institution will count toward years of experienceRequisite Abilities and SkillsIntermediate ability to perform design calculations such as battery sizing, AC and DC loads, system component selection, power transformer and circuit breaker selection, circuit protection, control and power cable selection and rating, bus bars, fittings, insulators, ground grid design, and lightning protectionIntermediate understanding of standards and codes such as IEEE, ANSI, NEC and NESCPossess intermediate understanding of equipment, material, ordering, and bills of material for substation constructionStrong written and verbal communicationPossess ability to understand interrelationship between systems and component equipmentDemonstrate ability to work with others in supplying information and seeking assistance as necessaryDemonstrate willingness and capabilities to assume leadership rolesAbout ActalentActalent is a global leader in engineering and sciences services and talent solutions.
