Description
The School of Engineering at the University seeks a dedicated and dynamic Academic Advisor to guide students in achieving their academic goals. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to student success, providing comprehensive academic advising, supporting student retention and recruitment initiatives, and collaborating with various campus resources.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Academic Advising:
    • Meet with current and prospective students to deliver accurate and up-to-date information on undergraduate curricula and program requirements.
    • Assist students in short-term and long-term academic program planning to ensure a timely graduation.
    • Guide students through the course registration process, including adding and dropping classes.
  2. Student Support:
    • Provide assistance to students experiencing academic difficulties by offering strategies for improvement and connecting them to relevant resources.
    • Address personal challenges by referring students to appropriate offices within the School of Engineering and the University.
  3. Retention and Recruitment:
    • Actively participate in retention and recruitment activities, including high school visits, community college outreach, career fairs, and on-campus events such as Engineering Explore Day and Transfer Visit Days.
    • Engage in activities that promote the School of Engineering and its programs to prospective students.
  4. Administrative Duties:
    • Maintain accurate computerized and in-office student records, ensuring compliance with university policies.
    • Assist in the graduation evaluation process, verifying students' academic progress toward degree completion.
  5. Communication and Information Dissemination:
    • Keep students informed about curriculum changes, important academic dates, and deadlines.
    • Promote campus-wide student success resources and facilitate student access to these services.
  6. Additional Responsibilities:
    • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to the development of advising practices and policies.
    • Undertake additional tasks as assigned to support the mission and goals of the School of Engineering.

Salary Information:
Advisor I $42,500
Advisor II $45,500
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • This position requires a minimum of a master's degree in higher education or a related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills are necessary.
  • Previous experience in advisement and student counseling and knowledge of University policies and procedures are preferred.
  • Familiarity with multicultural, cognitive, social and other developmental concepts are desirable.
