Job Requirements / Description

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Work on all phases of projects including troubleshooting, solution development, concept evaluation, designing / engineering, cost evaluation, bidding, scheduling, construction, start-up, and implementation.
  • Develop and design solutions supporting improvements in manufacturing.
  • Be a resource for the maintenance department.
  • Identify and implement cost reduction projects.
  • Become subject matter expert on projects and equipment.
  • Design and manage projects in all areas of the plant including material handling, conveying, food processing, blending / mixing, packaging, facilities, and utilities.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS
  • Qualified candidates with extensive trade experience in metal fabrication and design will also be considered.
  • Design food processing and packaging systems including:
    1. Pneumatic, screw, and belt conveying systems.
    2. Extruders, driers, ovens, scales, mixers, grinders
    3. Liquid handling, pumps, piping, valves
    4. Bulk bag and small pouch, packaging equipment
    5. Supporting structures, platforms, lifting equipment
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office is preferred. Similar software experience will be considered with the understanding that learning SolidWorks and AutoCAD will be required.
  • Ability to create functional designs for production equipment that are reliable, cost effective, and feasible.
  • Design equipment that will be built and installed by the Alphia owned fabrication shop.
  • Evaluate and recommend process improvements to maximize production capabilities.
  • Coordinate with management regarding project status, action items, and problems.
  • Proven track record of successful project management.
  • Ability to think creatively and coordinate ideas and concepts with other project engineers.
  • Ability to be manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Capable of open communication, cross-functional input, and feedback from management, maintenance, and plant operators.
  • Experience in food manufacturing, and sanitary equipment design is preferred.
  • Must be creative in developing solutions and alternatives.
  • Assist the Automation group in developing programming logic.
  • General understanding of building codes and structural knowledge.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Education: BS degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering and 4+ years of applicable experience.
  • Majority of responsibilities will be on site in the production facility.
  • Some initial travel to corporate headquarters will be required during the training phase of this position.
  • Must be able to work in a schedule driven production environment with a focus on supporting plant operations and maintenance.
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol, skills, and background testing required.
  • Food Safety, and Good Manufacturing Practices must be followed, including use of appropriate personal safety equipment.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, climb stairs, ladders and walk plant floors that could exceed one mile of travel per day.
  • Must be able to understand and follow work instructions in English.
