Fearless is looking for a Site Reliability Engineer II to add to our diverse team of 250+ employees (and counting!).


What You’ll Be Doing:

We’re looking to change the world by building software with a soul, and we want your help. The Site Reliability Engineer II implements reliable infrastructure solutions according to the strategic direction of the team. They enable efficient delivery of value to our customers through effective infrastructure and fast pipelines, empowering application developers to deliver at the speed desired for the project. The Site Reliability Engineer II also supports operations of the production environments including observability and troubleshooting issues (sometimes outside of normal business hours if mandated by the contract).


Responsibilities And Contributions:

Organizational and Leadership Role:

  1. Coaches and mentors others through example and direct coaching on infrastructure and automation skills.
  2. Takes initiative for their own growth through personal leadership.

Functional Role:

  1. Comfortable with bridging the gap between legacy development or operations teams and working toward a shared culture and vision.
  2. Ensures system uptime and performance. Works to equip developers with the best tools.
  3. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    1. Deploy and configure services using infrastructure as a service provider (Azure; AWS).
    2. Configure and manage Linux-based servers to serve a dynamic website.
    3. Debug cluster-based computing architectures.
    4. Use scripting or basic programming skills to solve problems.
    5. Install and manage open source monitoring tools.
    6. Install and manage configuration management tools (e.g., Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Salt).
    7. Develop architecture for continuous integration and deployment as well as continuous monitoring.
    8. Install and manage containerization technologies (e.g., LXC, Docker, Rocket).
    9. Work with open source solutions and communities.
    10. Communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience as necessary.

Must-Have Skills:

  1. Experience with implementing cloud infrastructure on AWS/Azure/GCP.
  2. Experience with Linux, especially RHEL family, and Bash scripting.
  3. Proficient in at least one scripting language (Bash, Python, etc).
  4. Experience serving as the engineer of complex technology implementations in a product-centric environment.
  5. Experience supporting scalable and elastic applications on distributed architectures.
  6. Strong ability and understanding of securing systems on the application, network, and infrastructure layers.
  7. Experience managing network/compute/database infrastructure with infrastructure-as-code.
  8. Proficient in infrastructure management process and tools like Terraform and AWS Cloudformation.
  9. Experience with server configuration processes and tools such as Chef, Ansible, or Puppet.
  10. Expert in basic git actions like cloning, creating branches, navigating between branches, staging code for commit, committing code, resetting, and merging.
  11. Proven ability to work under pressure and in fast-paced environments.
  12. Understanding of interfacing with external APIs (REST, JSON, Auth Tokens).
  13. Ability to operate and manage work, strategically reason, and build relationships and influence others.

Icing-on-the-Cake Skills:

  1. BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar technology-related degree.
  2. Experience working with government or large industry clients.
  3. Ability to use and maintain container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes or Openshift.
  4. Understanding of Agile principles.
  5. Proficient in at least one programming language and web applications framework such as Node.js/Express, Python/Django, Go, Java 8+/Spring, Ruby/Rails, etc.
  6. Ability to manage, scale, and secure persistent data stores like databases (relational and document-oriented) and file stores (e.g. AWS EFS, AWS S3).
  7. Holds a current AWS Certified Developer Associate, Solutions Architecture Associate, or Solutions Architect Professional or similar certification in another cloud platform.
  8. Proficiency with advanced Git actions like rebasing, squashing, and cherry-picking.
  9. Holds a current CompTIA Security+ certification.
  10. Platform as a Service (PaaS; i.e., OpenShift, Cloud Foundry), AWS (GovCloud, Commercial, Cloudwatch).
