Job Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) Facilities and Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Job Description

  • Advise on the various computing environment hardware platforms and evaluates various different and unrelated components of architectural systems.
  • Plan, coordinate and manage assigned architectural tasks for any of the phases of the computer lifecycle for designated systems, in accordance with accepted Systems Engineering and Cyber-Security practices.
  • Review proposals and investigate the automation needs to maintain the security posture of the network and maintain Command Cyber Readiness Inspection and Risk Management Framework compliance requirements.
  • Conduct engineering projects and studies which involve extensive analysis of user requirements and applicable systems software and computer equipment.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Basic Requirement for General Engineer (0854):

  1. A degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program, or equivalent coursework in engineering science and physics.
  2. Combination of education and experience demonstrating a thorough knowledge of physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering.

In order to qualify at the GS-11:

  1. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience at the GS-09 level or equivalent grade pay band in the federal service which includes:
    1. Providing engineering support for network architecture planning and management;
    2. Providing technical assistance regarding hardware/software compatibility;
    3. Conducting site assistance visits for on-site resolution of technical problems.
  2. Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education in a relevant field.
  3. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

In order to qualify at the GS-12:

  1. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience at the GS-11 level or equivalent grade pay band in the federal service which includes:
    1. Server administrator duties handling hardware and software;
    2. Utilizing LINUX and UNIX operating systems and familiarity with Windows products and Oracle DB;
    3. Operating System duties including installation, configuration, patching scripting, backup, and security scanning.
