Position Overview:

The Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing and overseeing the electrical power distribution systems for water treatment and renewable power generation projects. This role involves ensuring the safe, reliable, and effective development of electrical engineering designs. The position requires collaboration across teams and involves site visits for commissioning and start-up activities. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a strong commitment to safety, quality, and technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities of the  Electrical Design Engineer :

  • Develop reliable, effective, and safe products that contribute to advancements in water treatment and biogas fields.
  • Design and oversee electrical engineering components such as power distribution, backup power generation, motor control, lighting, electrical safety, arc flash, and grounding systems.
  • Prepare, modify, and interpret engineering design drawings, specifications, and scope documents.
  • Ensure engineering and design deliverables meet international, national, and local code requirements, as well as quality standards.
  • Manage projects from schematic design through to system start-up and commissioning.
  • Assist with electrical start-up and commissioning by conducting site visits and reviewing as-built conditions.
  • Coordinate with Instrumentation and Control (I&C) engineers to develop power distribution for control panels.
  • Perform electrical schematic designs, focusing on power distribution and panel wiring, and oversee procurement and fabrication.
  • Draft technical sections for project reports and communications related to electrical designs.
  • Conduct training for operators and internal teams on electrical safety procedures and standard operating practices.
  • Support pre-engineering for system sales by collaborating with the application engineering team.
  • Supervise construction and fabrication processes with partner fabrication shops and contractors.
  • Develop and maintain Excel-based design tools, equipment lists, panel schedules, and cable schedules.
  • Oversee the procurement of electrical equipment, coordinating with vendors for technical information, pricing, and lead times.
  • Serve as the technical lead for electrical tasks, ensuring alignment with project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Travel as required, up to 20-25%, with the potential for international assignments.

Qualifications of the Electrical Design Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in electrical engineering roles.
  • Strong technical proficiency in power distribution design, including creating one-line diagrams, panel schedules, switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
  • Familiarity with electrical codes and standards, including industrial codes and the NFPA 70 National Electrical Code.
  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, with active pursuit or possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license, and the ability to acquire licensure in additional states as required.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety, grounding, and arc flash studies.
  • Skilled in electrical schematic design and panel wiring, including power cable/conduit schedules, load lists, and electrical plans.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to analyze complex technical issues.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Familiarity with lighting design and grounding systems.
  • Pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up experience in industrial projects.
  • Experience with process P&IDs, PFDs, and specifying electrical equipment for process design.
  • Knowledge of capital project delivery, including front-end engineering, cost estimation, and construction support.
