Our Electrical Engineering team has many years of experience designing dynamic systems and controllers for manufacturers in many different industries. Our Electrical Engineers work closely with our full-service team to ensure a fully integrated package of the highest quality is provided. They assess client needs and create electronic designs that can handle the burden.

Because we are a design-build firm, we can help clients conceive of and implement their project. By retrofitting our client’s factories and manufacturing plants, they will improve the efficiency of their plant and save money.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers field data and develops and supervises the use of design criteria document(s) to meet the project objectives
  • Ensures quality and technical accuracy of project deliverables
  • Follows the BSI Standard Operating Procedures and Client Standards
  • Identifies necessary content for a complete design drawing package
  • With minimal supervision, performs or ensures all the necessary calculations and design effort to prepare drawings and deliverables
  • Ensures discipline's design is accurate and coordinated within the 2D drawings and/or 3D model and/or site scans
  • Manages discipline’s schedule and budget objectives on assigned projects
  • Assists in cost estimating
  • Provides clear direction to team of project scope, schedule, budget and expectations of quality.
  • With supervision, writes and produces additional project-based documents; including but not limited to studies, and project notes
  • Participates in construction support, startup and commissioning efforts
  • Identifies individual training needs and goals, receives training from others and may attend outside seminars and mentor others
  • Performs design of low voltage (600 and below) power distribution systems, design of medium voltage systems is desired, but not required
  • Assists in short circuit/arc flash/coordination and load studies, and in detailed checking of the entire electrical design package
  • Performs the design of MCCs, including single lines and layout of MCCs, the design of motor controls, including hardwired, PLC and DCS systems
  • Performs the specification of low voltage distribution equipment, specification of medium voltage distribution equipment is desired, but not required
  • Performs the design of electrical heat tracing and lighting systems
  • Performs the design of grounding and lightning protection systems
  • Obtaining planning and/or building regulations approval
  • Performs the design of cable tray and conduit systems
  • Performs the design of special systems, this includes telephone, data, fire alarm and communication
  • Interfaces with other design discipline counterparts and project management as needed
  • Interfaces with client as primary point of contact for your discipline
  • Considers other disciplines and overall project requirements during the project lifecycle
  • Participates in interactive planning sessions to ensure scope, schedule, costs and quality are aligned to project objectives
  • Participates in multi-discipline squad checks of deliverables before issuance
  • Continually monitors and communicates forecasted staffing requirements for their assigned projects
  • Strives to achieve the targeted billability goals for position
  • Executes assigned tasks to support business development; may participate in sales presentations
  • Provides regular updates of individual marketing resume
  • Provides direct, timely feedback to supervised team members and peers

Requirements

  • Associate Engineering Technology Degree and/or Computer Drafting and Design Degree preferred but not required; High School Diploma required
  • 5+ years of industry experience including experience with industrial electric systems
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit required
  • Proficient in lighting simulation software
  • Proficient in MicroStation V8i is a plus
  • Proficient written and oral communication skills
  • Strong decision-making and leadership skills
  • Ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks
  • Knowledge or exposure of arc flash studies using EasyPower and/or SKM software
  • Knowledge of IECC design requirements is desired, but not required
  • Possess a solid understanding of the National Electrical Code and hazardous area classification requirements

Reporting Structure

The new Electrical Designer will report to Matt Owens, our Director of Electrical Engineering. With over 30 years of experience, Matt is a valued member of our BSI team. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kentucky, and he has been with BSI since 2019. Matt has developed a strong Electrical team and focuses on growth and development for each of his team members. Matt is excited to add another Engineer to his team!
