Salary Range: $119,780 - $182,670 annually (Determined by function, education, experience, and qualifications of the applicant.)

Bechtel is seeking a Resident Engineer - Utilities to serve as an important part of the Construction Management leadership team for one of Bechtel’s major prospective projects in California. This Resident Engineering position will bring experience and expertise to the project while working closely with the client’s organization and their stakeholders, in addition to Bechtel’s select subconsultants.

Job Summary:

The Resident Engineer for the Utilities will oversee construction activities for compliance with the contract, provide construction reports including trends and schedules, manage contract change orders, and coordinate subcontract work activities and team development. Your oversight will assist the owner/client in ensuring that the project is progressing efficiently and productively, complying with project policies, procedures, and job site work rules and procedures.

Major Responsibilities:

Leadership / Supervision

  • Act as Resident Engineer overseeing the activities of Assistant Resident Engineers, Office Engineers, Lead Inspectors, Construction Inspectors, and Administrative/Project personnel.
  • Review contractor requests for change and assist in the preparation of contract change orders/modifications.
  • Ensure compliance with reporting and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.

Planning / Productivity

  • Determine workforce requirements.
  • Monitor contractor work for compliance to schedule, budget, technical specifications, contract drawings, and legal requirements.
  • Attend progress meetings and report on status.
  • Coordinate and manage reports on the overall station schedule, risks, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee tool and equipment usage on the site.

Safety & Quality

  • Demonstrate commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H).
  • Ensure all design changes are approved prior to implementation.
  • Work with the Construction Safety Manager to implement safety rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor performance and compliance of the construction work with quality requirements.

Technical

  • Work with Construction Field Engineers in interpreting Engineering design documents and vendor documents.
  • Resolve design and field construction problems.
  • Identify and quantify scope requirements and interfaces for station design and development.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.
  • Successful utilities track record on major ($1B+) multidisciplinary Light Rail projects.
  • Minimum of 7 years of utility relocation experience.
  • Professional Engineering license in one or more US States is strongly preferred.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated technical writing, verbal communication, and field staff management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with project stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively manage project team members.
  • Cal-OSHA/OSHA 30 training certification at start of work on Project.
