Department Overview

Facility Integrity Management Program (FIMP) Risk is part of the Gas Facilities & Storage Engineering organization. This department conducts data-driven engineering analysis and risk management to ensure the integrity of gas facilities. We develop mitigation strategies that uphold safety standards and embody environmental responsibility, creating cost-effective and sustainable solutions. FIMP Risk has developed extensive subject matter expertise on a wide range of topics applicable to stations and serves as a primary resource for the broader Gas Operations Organization.

Position Summary

This position will work with the FIMP Risk Engineer, Principal, who is the authority in our Engineering Critical Assessment and other Risk Informed programs, and will report to the FIMP Risk Supervisor.

As a FIMP Risk Engineer, Associate, you will be part of a team of Engineers and Specialists who support the following FIMP Risk initiatives: Gas Facilities Wildfire Station Risk Assessments, Maximum Allowable Operation Pressure (MAOP) Reconfirmation Programs which include Engineering Critical Assessment (ECA) to comply with 49 CFR §192.624 (c)(3) method of ECA 49 CFR §192.632, Pressure Test per 49 CFR §192.624 (c)(1) or Replace per §192.624 (c)(4), as well as Material Verification per 49 CFR §192.607 and other station risk mitigation activities.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The current work location is 6121 Bollinger Canyon Rd, San Ramon, CA 94583; however, it is subject to change within the PG&E Service Territory. The position will require up to 25% of travel time in the work schedule. Occasional support outside of regular business hours may be required to address urgent or emergency tasks.

Position may require a valid California driver's license on day one of employment.

Position duties may include (but are not limited to):

  1. Act as PG&E Station Co-Lead in Engineering Critical Assessment and Material Verification activities.
  2. Manage and help direct project activities that are being performed at PG&E facilities to fulfill compliance requirements with MAOP reconfirmation, materials verification, or confirmation of existing company records.
  3. Collaborate with peers to prepare technical reports and specifications and to identify, define, and solve problems.
  4. Support peers in testing, process improvements, research, and development activities to gain efficiencies and eliminate waste.
  5. Develop breadth or further develop expertise and specialization in data science to support in creating or maintaining tools for various efforts within our programs.
  6. Identify and propose innovations and cost-reduction potential of new and existing technologies.
  7. Determine customer expectations and ensure project deliverables meet customer satisfaction/objectives.
  8. Interface with and support team on projects involving many stakeholders throughout the gas operations organization including PLEs, MAOP Engineering, TIMP, AKM, ILI for example.

Salary Information

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $95,000

Bay Area Maximum: $143,000

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Applies basic engineering principles and scientific theory to perform testing, calculations, and analysis under the direction of senior peers or supervisor.
  2. Typically assigned to routine work where precedents, standards, protocols, and techniques exist.
  3. May design the tests for assignments/projects and select standards, methods, and protocols. Reviews design and protocols with senior peer or supervisor.
  4. Develops knowledge to test, maintain, and troubleshoot gas maintenance operations systems.
  5. Partners with senior technical peers to develop proficiency in a variety of issues. Assists with the more complex projects by compiling and providing technical data.
  6. Participates on one or more Threat Committees or Technical initiative teams.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with emphasis in a discipline related to assignments (i.e., mechanical, civil, or electrical engineering, etc.) or equivalent experience.

Desired:

  • Natural Gas or Petroleum pipeline experience.
  • Knowledge of engineering research and testing concepts, theories, practices, methods, techniques.
  • Investigative and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of quality assurance and control concepts and practices.
  • Experience in data science work and programming languages such as R, Python, SQL, and VBA.
