About the role

We are seeking an experienced Associate Director, Engineering to lead our engineering function. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of engineering principles, and have with a proven track record in designing, managing, and optimizing cutting-edge facilities and equipment that support advanced biotechnological research and production.

What you'll do

  • Facilities and Equipment Design :
    • Lead the design, development, and optimization of high-tech biotech facilities and equipment, ensuring they meet industry standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Oversee the planning and execution of facility expansions, upgrades, and new installations, ensuring seamless integration with existing operations.
    • Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams to ensure that facilities and equipment are designed to support current and future product pipelines.
  • Leadership and Management :
    • Lead and mentor a team of engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
    • Set clear goals and expectations for the engineering team, ensuring alignment with the company's strategic objectives.
    • Manage the recruitment, development, and performance of engineering staff.
  • Project Management :
    • Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects, with a focus on facility and equipment-related initiatives.
    • Ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and budget, while maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance.
  • Technical Strategy :
    • Develop and implement the engineering strategy for facilities and equipment, aligning with the company’s vision and long-term goals.
    • Drive the adoption of new technologies and methodologies in facility and equipment design to enhance operational efficiency and scalability.
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices in all engineering activities.
  • Innovation and Problem-Solving :
    • Identify and assess emerging technologies and trends in facilities and equipment design, leveraging them to enhance the company’s competitive edge.
    • Lead the resolution of technical challenges related to facility and equipment design, ensuring the highest quality and performance of biotech products.
  • Budget and Resource Management :
    • Manage the engineering budget, with a focus on optimizing resource allocation for facility and equipment projects.
    • Ensure the availability of necessary tools, equipment, and resources for the engineering team.
  • Stakeholder Communication :
    • Serve as the primary engineering liaison to senior management, providing regular updates on facility and equipment project progress, risks, and opportunities.
    • Engage with external partners, vendors, and customers to drive collaborative efforts and enhance the company’s technological capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Education : Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a related field
  • Experience : Minimum of 10 years of experience in engineering roles, with at least 3 years in a leadership position focused on facilities and equipment design within the biotech or life sciences industry.
  • Technical Expertise : Strong knowledge of engineering principles and practices, particularly in the design and optimization of biotech facilities and equipment. 
  • Leadership Skills : Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams. Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Project Management : Demonstrated success in managing complex facility and equipment design projects from concept to completion.
  • Communication : Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
