Are you passionate about Technology Breakthrough and Innovation? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our TBI department. As a Materials Project Engineer, you’ll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team.

The Materials Project Engineer at S&C plays a critical role in supporting the development and commercialization of new medium voltage distribution switchgear products for the utility market. This role focuses on the formulation, design, prototyping, and evaluation of mechanical and electrically insulating structures and components. The Materials Project Engineer works closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that new product concepts are effectively developed and brought to market.

Key Responsibilities:

  • New Product Development Support: Collaborates with cross-functional teams to develop new engineering materials, contributing to the successful commercialization of medium voltage electrical products. Formulates and designs materials and components, including prototypes, for new product concepts.
  • Materials and Process Technology Expertise: Applies advanced knowledge of materials and process technologies to support product development.
  • Project Support: Manages multiple tasks and supports multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality results.
  • Material Testing: Utilizes a range of specialized testing equipment to evaluate material properties and ensure compliance with design specifications.
  • Continuous Improvement: Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the latest advancements in materials science and engineering.
  • Product Development Documentation: Support the development and revision of documents and technical requirements.
  • Compliance: Understand and comply with all applicable Company policies and rules.

  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with others.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

What you’ll Need To Succeed:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • 5+ years of experience in materials engineering, particularly in new product development and commercialization.
  • Proven track record of developing and bringing new products to market.
  • Advanced understanding of materials science.
  • Able to apply innovative problem-solving techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience with DFMA, DFMEA, and other engineering analysis tools.
  • Great communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency.
  • Sound business sense and analytical skills.
  • Rounded interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in the use of 3D CAD software.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in one of the above fields.
  • Additional coursework or experience in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in the electrical utility market or related industries.

Environmental and Hazardous Conditions:

  • Continuously working indoors/outdoors in an air-conditioned office/manufacturing based environment.
  • Infrequently exposed to various hazardous conditions.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting, Walking, Manual Dexterity, Ascending/Descending, Observation/Eyesight, Communication, Travel.
