Job Summary:
Work alongside EITs, Project Engineer and Project Managers, learning how to design communities and assist in the development of construction drawings, specifications and construction contract documents for single-family residential development projects within and outside Municipal Utility Districts (MUDs) that include paving, grading, drainage, water distribution lines, wastewater collection lines, and other related items. Has a knowledge of CAD and EHRA standards. Can work independently to set up base drawings with utilities, following City and County standards. Performs one-line design of utilities, roadways, detention and grading for multiple projects. Demonstrate knowledge of basic design standards, including state and local regulations and criteria, and effectively apply them. Be capable of researching information and where to find the correct information. Demonstrate knowledge of the EHRA QA/QC program. Work to accomplish all tasks in year two growth plan.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Apply standard practices and techniques in solving problems.
  • Contribute to investigations and development of new concepts to solve unique problems in various facilities.
  • Contribute data/findings for use in technical reports, designs, documents, or oral/written presentations.
  • Assist with engineering design functions under the direction of a Registered Professional Engineer.
  • Provide support throughout the project and provide status updates throughout project life.
  • Understanding agency design standards.
  • Understands purpose and can implement objectives and timing of each QA/QC.
  • Can effectively communicate with survey and construction on items needed for plan production.
  • Understand and implement plan submittal and approval process for multiple agencies.
  • Attend quarterly progress meetings w/PM and PAL.
  • About to be a Summer Leader for a Summer intern.
  • Participates on a design team in the preparation of construction drawings and cost estimates in varying stages of the project.
  • Assists in maintaining design and construction schedules and budgets.
  • Assist on creating bond issue applications.
  • Major role in the QA/QC process.
  • Perform engineering design functions under the direction on a Registered Professional Engineer.
  • Provide support throughout the project and provide status updates throughout project life
  • Provide input into the development and documentation of specific company design standards for use by all professionals working on company design projects.
  • Provide assistance in assignments for water, wastewater, paving and drainage and Roadway projects.
  • Provide assistance in design, preparation of project budgets and schedules, final plans and specifications.
  • Team participation in a collaborative environment within a diverse workforce; actively contributes to completion of team goals and assigned tasks; clearly communicates information, ideas, or instructions, both verbally and in writing; exhibits decisions that are based on safe practices and environmental awareness.
  • Assists in investigation and development of new concepts to solve unique challenges that come with each project.
  • Coordinates with permitting organizations such as the City, State and County officials to develop knowledge of the permitting process and the application of codes.
  • Interact and collaborate with other team members and clients to accomplish organizational goals. Supports mid- and senior-level engineers to complete planning; research preliminary design; and may be required to perform detailed design.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Knowledge of MUDs, communication skills and leadership skills.
  • Must be able to follow directives provided by the Project Manager, set priorities, assist in the preparation of project schedules and be willing to work on multiple projects in a team-based environment focused on the timely delivery of quality projects.
  • Requires strong communication with team members, clients and governmental agencies.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Agency criteria.
Work Environment:
  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the construction areas, which may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection, etc.

Education, certification and experience:
  • BS in Civil Engineering, with 1 - 3 years or more of experience in Land Development.
  • Must be PC literate, preferably having experience in AutoCAD.
  • Efficient in Word, Excel and Project. • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Physical Requirements:
  • This is largely a sedentary role. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate project plans both orally and in writing.
  • The employee is occasionally required to move about the office to operate office productivity machinery or maneuver through a construction site safely.
  • May require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
  • The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Proper office attire required to be presentable for out of office meetings.
