Position: Senior Apparel Designer
Location: Austin, TX, or surrounding area (San Antonio, Houston, Dallas).
This is a full-time remote position, with weekly in person co-working (1 day a week).
Candidates that are strictly graphic designers with no technical apparel product development experience will not be considered.
Chicka-d, an established women’s apparel brand in the collegiate, resort and lifestyle markets, is looking for a highly motivated Senior Apparel Designer to join our Design Team. This role is responsible for executing and developing chicka-d’s apparel assortment from start to finish, including silhouettes, decoration techniques, treatments and trims, and graphic concepts in collaboration with the Creative Director.
Responsibilities:
● Execute design development and production projects under the direction of the Creative Director.
● Contribute design concepts, including silhouettes and graphics, for chicka-d’s two annual collections (Fall and Spring).
● Manage the creation and execution of production tech packs, spec sheets, and technical sketches.
● Lead communication with overseas manufacturers on fit, construction details, product development, costing, and sampling.
● Review and approve product samples.
● Lead fittings and troubleshoot fit issues with the team.
● Maintain and update all styles in the internal tracking system.
● Research trends, colors, fabrics, and innovations, applying insights to designs for our niche markets.
● Collaborate with the Creative Director to support the seasonal development calendar and meet deadlines.
● Take detailed notes during design meetings.
Qualifications:
● Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design, Apparel Design, or related field
● 5+ years experience in tech packing, garment construction, fittings and production
● Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (AI and PS) with strong CAD skills, Excel, and Word
● Highly motivated problem solver that tackles challenges with a positive attitude
● Excellent organization and communication skills
● Knowledge of apparel construction, fabric, wash and dye techniques, & trims.
● Knowledge of manufacturing techniques and processes.
● Understanding of product costing and retail math
● Ability to recognize and accurately forecast fashion, color, and fabric trends as they relate to the chicka-d customer approximately 12 months ahead of season.
● Passion and familiarity of College Sports Industry a plus
