Backend Engineer

Duties

Our focus has been to create a Structured Lending Platform as part of the Client Marquee strategy which covers a wide spectrum of asset classes such as Loans, Repurchase Agreements (Repos), Asset-Backed Securities, and Derivatives. This role offers a unique opportunity to work with the Structured Lending businesses and Strats in GBM to deliver solutions using the latest technology stack while learning finance.

Job Responsibilities / Typical Day In The Role

1. Provide world-class quality of service to end users throughout the resolution process.
2. Support multiple large-scale applications.
3. Deep dive into the code and provide robust fixes to the support issues.
4. Encourage and support knowledge sharing within the team and external groups.
5. Work in an agile environment focused on the most important deliverables for our clients.
6. Engage engineering teams and product owners to assist with troubleshooting as needed.
7. Demonstrate excellent ticket hygiene by selecting appropriate product categories, keeping detailed ticket notes, managing ticket backlog, etc.
8. Maintain effective documentation by regularly reviewing and updating knowledgebase content.
9. Take a proactive approach in analyzing current practices to identify areas for improvement and make suggestions for more efficient and strategic solutions.
10. The individual will be splitting time approximately 40-50% coding and the other ad hoc technology support.
11. The coding work done will be in response to support requests, rather than direct project-based development.
12. Possess the drive to dive deep, thrive, and progress even in ambiguous situations.

Skills

Must Have Skills / Requirements

1. 5+ years of hands-on experience in Python or Java.
2. 3+ years in SQL or NoSQL databases like MongoDB or ElasticSearch.
3. Demonstrated experience in providing high-velocity technical support.
4. Strong Computer Science fundamentals in Data Structures, Algorithms, Complexity Analysis, Object-Oriented Design, and Designing Large Scale Data-Intensive Applications.

Nice to Have Skills / Preferred Requirements

1. Experience in Java, Python, SQL.
2. Experience in ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) or Prometheus + Grafana.
3. Proficiency in Linux, Bash, JSON, and SQL.
4. Knowledge of Credit products like corporate bonds/loans, credit default swaps, total return swaps is a plus.
5. Experience with cloud computing systems.
6. Networking including TCP, HTTP, DNS, SSL certificates.
