Position Summary:

Mass General Brigham’s board and system-wide executive leadership are making significant investments in enterprise data and digital health, enabling innovation and transformation in the delivery of health care, research and discovery. By building out core digital and data capabilities, we are supporting the achievement of Mass General Brigham’s mission to drive growth and innovation in inpatient, ambulatory, and digital care. In the achievement of these goals, Mass General Brigham’s data and analytic teams are working together to build a system-wide data ecosystem. We are both leveraging current assets and building new, integrated solutions to provide a holistic set of industry-leading data and analytic capabilities, supporting Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and real-time insights. Teams from Data and Analytics, Research Analytics, Clinical Data Science, and Information Systems are collaborating to build this new data and analytic ecosystem. To ensure success of this effort, Mass General Brigham is standing up a new Data and Analytics operating model with a goal of driving a level of standardization for data and analytic operations across the teams involved.

The value of investments in data and analytics were proven out during our response to COVID-19 as these investments were leveraged to stand up new reporting and analytic capabilities to support executive and clinical leadership on managing the pandemic. Our broad data and analytic community has come together across Mass General Brigham’s 14 healthcare sites with shared urgency, delivering analytic tools to our system that drove timely insights in both clinical and operational domains, resulting in effective delivery of critical care and in organizational efficiencies during a time of reduced resources.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop, and implement data pipelines and ETL/ELT code to support business requirements.
  • Work on cross-functional teams delivering enterprise solutions for internal and external clients.
  • Assume ownership for delivering changes and enhancements from design through development and production installation.
  • Maintain and optimize various components of the data pipeline architecture & operations.
  • Drive impact analysis for major technical changes.
  • Become subject matter expert for internal and external data products.
  • Ensure design solutions can scale and meet technical standards and performance benchmarks.
  • Identify inefficient processes and develop recommendations and design solutions.
  • Develop, steward and manage current & future state architecture and assist in end-to-end implementation & operations.
  • Participate in ETL Quality circle discussions to explore, discuss, and arrive at efficient solutions and best practices.
  • Participate in project planning upcoming product and tool/version upgrades.
  • Assist Data Platform Operations in optimizations & cut down time to delivery.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • Assign/delegate project assignments as appropriate. Provide project-specific direction and guidance to project team members to facilitate timely and quality results. Monitor quality of work performed by team members throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Establish and create a positive team environment through leadership and mentoring. Work with staff members to develop an individualized professional development path with clear goals and objectives.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations (merit) for all direct reports in a timely manner.

  • This position requires occasional local travel to MGB sites, vendors, and/or conferences.
  • Hospital work environment working conditions include possible exposure to diseases or infections and may require safety gear (PPE) such as gloves and mask.
  • Normal office working conditions. The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk; or hear; use hands to finger; handle; or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop; kneel; or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of related professional experience including 3+ years in data warehousing development in large reporting environment(s).
  • Experience with developing data pipelines using on Snowflake features & Azure Pipelines (Snowpipe, SnowSQL, Snow Sight, Data Streams, ADF, ADLS).
  • Hands-on development experience with ETL/ELT tools, such as dbt, Fivetran, or Informatica.
  • Working knowledge of cloud computing platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure Data Factory (ADF).
  • Experience working in Agile software development environment.
  • Experience with enterprise database solutions in cloud environments.
  • Adherence to sound engineering principles and practices when designing technical solutions.
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret business requirements, evaluate options, and arrive at an efficient, functioning ETL solution.
  • Proficient in SQL and at least one scripting language.
  • Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects in a high volume, fast-paced Production environment.
  • Ability to identify process improvement opportunities and areas of potential conflict.
  • Familiarity with current healthcare industry practices.
  • Working knowledge of MGB data products and platforms a plus.
  • Experience working with Azure Cloud architecture.
  • Assist Data Platform Operations with building integrated & robust data pipelines and support.
  • Experience with Tableau is a plus.
