Team Lead/Program Manager: SQL DBA and DW functions
Chicago, IL – 2 days onsite, 3 days remote

Summary:
This specific position will be responsible for Data Platform Operations and DBA Manager for the Data Portfolio, which will focus on the delivery of relational database services (e.g. SQL Server), data warehouse service (e.g. Snowflake), data integration (e.g. SSIS, Azure Data Factory), data replication, reporting (e.g. SSRS, Tableau, PowerBI, Cognos), monitoring (e.g. SentryOne, SCOM, Idera, RedGate), and data security as well as contributing to the roadmap for digital transformation to cloud data warehouses, advance data visualization, and adoption of highly scalable tools and processes. Key areas will include operational management of highly available SQL Server, management of DBA team, demand management, change management, process improvement, ITIL, ticketing standardization, continuous integration and development, agile methodology, source control, automation, providing data platforms for various teams and 3rd party applications.

What you'll be doing operationally

• Direct oversight of the SQL DBA team, and platforms in which they are operating
• Manage DBA and engineering resources effectively, including managing support, escalations and on call operations
• Apply ITIL processes around service delivery, ticket management and operational best practices.
• Be hands on to assist with escalated technical issues
• Architect solutions that optimize operations

What you'll be doing strategically

• Stay current with trends in their assigned area – both in terms of business trends and technology trends that influence the area. Maintain awareness of best practices and competitive intelligence of what other firms are doing in this area.
• Based on the above, determine the short- and long-term roadmaps for their program – adjusting over time as priorities and technologies change. Communicate and socialize the roadmap to achieve executive buy-in.
• Make key tradeoff, risk, and other critical decisions to do the "right” thing for the program, taking into account all perspectives.
• Champion change and innovation in the area – socializing a forward-thinking program of projects and program roadmap.
• Determine skills needed, roles needed, and create and organize project teams based on resource estimates from the resource owners (Business Analysts, Developers, Architects, Project Managers, etc.) Resolve resource, timing or other conflicts between projects and groups.
• Establish policies and procedures related to data security, integrity, audit and apply the principle of least privilege.

Skills we're seeking

• 7+ years of experience in DBA, Data Architecture or other data-related technical positions
• 2+ years of experience in a lead or management capacity, and interfacing with key business stakeholders
• Strong SQL Server experience
• At least some experience with cloud-based DWs

Nice to have experience

• Formal Program Management experience, and experience creating roadmaps – and overseeing roadmap execution for technical initiatives
• ITIL experience
• Azure experience, ideally with Data Factory as well
• Snowflake experience
• Power BI, Cognos or SSRS experience
