Position Summary

A Senior Superintendent is the primary jobsite supervisor with operational responsibility for employees involved in the installation, alteration, addition, and/or repair of electrical systems, conductors, and associated materials and equipment for large, typically ground-up projects requiring complex coordination of multiple subordinate supervisors and crews. This is a safety-sensitive position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for all CEC field trades on an electrical construction project.
  2. Does a working estimate and take-off jointly with the Project Manager.
  3. Lays out work for subordinate supervisors and lead persons and is jointly responsible with the Project Manager for having material, tools, equipment, information, and appropriate manpower in the proper place in a timely fashion.
  4. Establishes work schedules and man-loading charts.
  5. Interfaces with representatives of the General Contractor on day-to-day project scheduling and overall performance issues.
  6. Provides general supervision to subordinate foremen engaged in the installation of electrical feeders; equipment such as pumps, motors, and generators; control and distribution apparatus such as switch gear, relays, and circuit breaker panels; lighting fixtures and outlets; and related connections and terminations.
  7. Monitors work as performed, directs subordinate supervisors and crews, and schedules work according to the pace of the job and other trades.
  8. Handles or oversees the disposition of required office correspondence and administrative paperwork such as official forms, daily reports, time sheets/tickets, safety reports, etc.
  9. Is responsible for overall project safety performance. Assures employees are properly trained or instructed in performance of duties to which assigned. Assures compliance with all CEC safety processes and protocols. Investigates or assists in investigation and reporting of any accident or safety incidents involving jobsite employees.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective processes, completion of projects, and smooth operation of the department.

Education and Experience

  1. Must possess all skills of lower-rated positions including Superintendent, Foreman, Journeyman, T2, H2.
  2. 10 years or more of commercial/industrial electrical experience.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  1. Must have a current Drivers License and reliable transportation.
  2. Must meet attendance standards and comply with late/absence notification procedures.
  3. Must be able to pass drug and background check.
  4. Comprehend reading and drawing prints, specifications, and schematics.
  5. Bend conduit by hand with hand benders.
  6. Utilize all power tools, saws, threaders, and knockout punches.
  7. Operate wire tuggers and hydraulic benders.
  8. Dig trenches, either by use of hand tools or power equipment.
  9. Operate all equipment including trenchers, backhoe, and lift trucks in a safe manner.
  10. Comprehend and practice safe work procedures as outlined in CEC's Safety Policy, Handbook, Haz-Com Policy, and Lockout/Tagout Policy.
  11. Operate two-handed tools/equipment, cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, and jackhammers.
  12. Operate company vehicles with both manual and automatic transmission.
  13. Read and interpret maps, instructional manuals, work site directions, and written instructions.
  14. Operate and work from mechanical personnel lifts, both electric and gasoline powered.
  15. Work energized circuits and equipment with company management approval as outlined in CEC's Safety Policy.
  16. Install and make branch wire terminations in junction boxes and panel boards.
  17. Install and make feeder wire terminations in junction boxes and switch boards.

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

  3. Move about on the feet regularly. Sit for extended periods of time.
  4. Requires the ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
  5. May require travel.
  6. Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
  7. Talk and hear, ability to communicate with others both written and orally and by telephone.
  8. Possess good vision, normal or corrected. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision to discern color-coded wires, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  9. Possesses good hearing, normal or corrected.
  10. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest), as needed.
  11. Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required and night shifts, as needed. Must be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the job site.
  12. Must be able to work in the presence of customers and their representatives with little or no interference or disruption to the customer while maintaining a professional and courteous image.
