Summary
The Director of Engineering Services provides leadership and supervision of in-house and outside construction projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget. The role is focused on creating and managing construction projects to achieve a safe and effective environment for patients, staff members, and other individuals, consistent with the hospital's mission and vision.
Responsibilities
- Supervises and assigns construction project work to in-house or outside contractors.
- Establishes effective communications to plan, coordinate, and layout construction project schedules with users.
- Assists the Vice President of Support Services in developing construction project budgets and timelines.
- Plans, coordinates, and supervises all construction projects on hospital property through Project Managers, Supervisors, and Foremen.
- Ensures projects are on budget, within schedule, and completed with quality workmanship.
- Develops and monitors departmental operating budgets.
- Recruits and supervises an effective support staff, providing training and development programs.
- Coordinates construction projects to assure minimal disruption of medical services.
- Reviews, records, monitors, and administers all construction projects.
- Ensures compliance with codes for all construction projects.
- Prepares reports to monitor cost, time schedules, and effectiveness of contractors.
- Establishes departmental goals and objectives with target dates for completion.
- Inspects all construction projects for code compliance and quality.
- Prepares construction project agenda items for PHT Board of Trustee Committees.
- Reviews and approves all invoices and change orders related to construction projects.
- Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Quality Improvement Plan.
- Communicates the organization’s mission and vision to all staff.
- Ensures staff participation in required educational programs.

- Adheres to compliance standards and supports the commitment to ethical business practices.
- Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Experience
Generally requires 7 to 10 years of related experience. Management experience is required.
Education
Bachelor's degree in a related field is required. Master's degree is strongly preferred.

Credentials
Valid license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty.
Working Conditions
Physical Requirements - Job function is sedentary in nature and requires sitting for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift or carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
Environmental Conditions - Required to function in a fast-paced environment with occasional high-pressure situations. Possible exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions common to a hospital environment.
