Job Summary
The associate at this level is expected to solve electronic/electrical problems, trouble shoot and repair devices using acquired technical theory and newly learned practical experience. The types of problems and areas of focus would cover items pertaining to existing products, new products, automation, and/or as-yet-undeveloped ideas. This work is performed on multifunctional development teams under the supervision of more senior engineers.
Essential Job Functions *
  • Tests components ranging from simple components to systems of low complexity to satisfy customer requirements.
  • Records and evaluates test data, prepares graphs or charts of this data by entering it into the computer for analysis and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
  • Researches and analyzes data such as internal customer product proposals, drawings/specifications, new equipment applications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application considering cost, time, and other factors.
  • Predicts test performance based on sound technical practices. Participates in the fabrication of test equipment and develops methods and procedures for testing products or systems.
  • May perform hands-on preliminary testing of concepts. Analyzes test data for viability of accuracy and development of products.
  • Participates in the hands-on assembly or prototyping of engineering concepts and/or Alpha build products.
  • Trouble shoot mechanical and electrical systems to the failed component level; performs specialized failure analysis product testing; inputs troubleshooting data into the database.
  • Communicates design intent through creation of engineering or product specifications and along with the documented spec, provides the necessary guidance to mechanical designers for successful design execution.
  • Read and interpret equipment documentation to assist in the diagnosis of equipment problems.

Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent and 2-5 years' experience in a related field, or Vocational School in Electronics and 0-2 years' experience in a related field.
  • An understanding of basic trouble shooting, problem solving and testing procedures.
  • Prior experience analyzing electromechanical and electronic circuits and components.
  • Working knowledge of schematics and electronic design standards, able to understand PCB documentation with little assistance.
  • Prior experience with industrial automation.
Competencies - Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Basic Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Basic Altium Designer or similar PCB software packages (as required)
  • Basic Oracle Agile or similar PLM/PDM software package (as required)
  • Basic Programming SLC-500, MicroLogix PLC's (as required)
  • Basic AutoCAD Electrical (as required)
  • Able to troubleshoot and repair electro-mechanical assemblies
  • Basic electronics familiarity with PCB Design and layout, cable and wire harness design
  • Basic understanding of electronic inspection methods
  • Practical knowledge of engineering analysis, testing and validation
  • Able to take project assignments and carry them through to successful implementation with supervisory oversight
  • Able to present solution concepts through sketch, verbal and formal presentation means
  • Good math and analytical skills
  • Good problem solving and trouble shooting skills
  • Experience documenting test results in graphs and charts
  • Good organization skills and attention to detail
Operational Equipment
  • Able to use basic measurement tools such as DVMs, oscilloscopes and other test equipment (as required)
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Work Environment
Quality Control: Fast-paced, standing on concrete floors up to 8 hrs/day. Exposure to loud noise. Functional vision and hearing required.
Physical Demands
Quality Control: Medium, lifting up to 70 lbs., pushing/pulling up to 70 lbs.
